2000 i30 trunk?
hey guys i just got my i30 probably 3 weeks ago, and i just realized that there is no hardcover below the carpeting (like bmws) i can see the outline of my spare tire very well through the carpet, is it suppose to be like this? or is there a cover/lid that i can purchase through aftermarket/dealer?
and i was reading the whole dash kit thing, wouldnt the 2000 maxima one fit?

well i dont know if this has any relavence but http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=343312 and yeah i would love to get a kit where i could put a tv in the dash like the max's but i think our temp controls are too big, ive spent many hours staring at my dash trying to figure out what could go where to fit it in there.

I don't know if you would be interested or not, but I made a new one for my car. In fact, I have done this for a few of my cars over the years just because they usually get old or cracked. Anyway, you can buy the same material they use at th factory (or pretty darn close to it) from the hardware store and then just cut it out and slap it in. You should be all set.

fatone: You are supposed to have one.
Dr. Monkey: That is a good idea. Mine is craked and I need a new one. I was going to pay rip off factory price, but I should make a new one, made out of even supierior quality! Thanx!

i30ds: Yeah it is really easy and it may sounds silly, but it gave me a nice sense of accomplishment when I finished mine. Ify ou have your old one, it makes it 2000 times easier because you just have to lay that one down on top of whatever material you are going to use to make your new one and then trace everything. If it has the foam blocks on it, just rip them off and super glue them onto your new one that you make and BAM, you have an exact replica of the factory trunk floor for probably about $10!
Let me know how it goes

I already ripped of my foam blocks so my FULL SIZE spare would fit. It has come in handy several times when I got flats because did not have to worry about driving on that dinky @ss little doughnut.

my spare sticks up about a half an inch, and today my car went in to get the audio stuff put in, and the maxima scosche kit doesnt fit, their going to try to use a lincoln kit and mold it in anyone use sound deadening in the doors? because even with the stock bose system, my doors were getting annoying

I don't know if a full size spare will fit in the 2nd gen I30, but it probably does. I do know for a fact that it fits the 1st gen because when I bought my car it did not have a spare so I got a full size hoping in would fit and it does. All you have to do is rip the stupid little foam blocks off of the wood base board.
As far as sound insulation goes I think that Dynamat Extreme is the top choice. There is also brown bread from B-Quiet.com. Check out secondskinaudio.com too.
Those two are rather pricy, so a cheaper option would be to go with Pean n' Seal from Home Depot in the roofing section. Lowes has their Tite Seal which is the same thing. Although they are not as thick as Dynamat or Brown Bread, they are a fraction of the price and so you could simply double or triple layer the area to create the same thinckness as the more expensive brands.
I plan on double or triple layering the doors, trunk, and under the rear seat with the home depot stuff. I will not do under the carpet because when I looked under there, Nissan did do a good job by laying down at least 1/2 inch thick foam all the way. However, the other areas have no noise absorbtion what so ever. The door panels have only about two or three brick sized blocks of foam, and under the rear seat/ trunk have absolutely nothing!!
Members that have done this say that it is totally worth the effort as their cars absobed most road noise and sound systems sounded 10 times better. One guy even used a dB meter to measure the amount of noise after sound proofing and he got in the 60-70 dB range at a 70 mph cruise which is what most new Acura, Infiniti, and Lexus cars strive for today!
