Rear defrost extremely weak...

My old car (2002 Civic) could cut through snow/ice/whatever on the rear window with its defrost.

My I30 is a dog when it comes to defrosting =( With even the smallest amount of dew/frost, it takes forever. I have tinted windows, but it was very slow even before my tinted windows. Any tips?

I just posted a similar question in the 4th gen forum. I just got my I30 and it seemed like the defrost didn't work this morning. Granted I was only in the car about 15 minutes, but I expected to see some sign of work at the lines on the window or warm glass when I got home. Nothing.
If you figure out how to test the defrost, please let me know.

Well, mine definitely works, but it takes an extremely long time. My drive to work is 15-20 minutes... and it takes about 10 minutes before I can see out the back window, and this is only with a tiny amount of dew on the back. I don't know if they get weak with age or something. My '02 Honda would literally melt snow/ice off the back after a couple minutes.

Good God man! Never use your rear defroster if you value your tint. That **** will bubble on you!

so it turns out my defroster is REALLY weak, or possibly intermittent. The wife said she started to see some results after a 30 minute drive. Obviously it's not the switch since it lights up and she saw results. Perhaps it could be the relay. But most likely the trouble is near the window, if not the window itself. I'll t/s later.
BTW, the tint cant bubble if you dont have tinted windows! So if you know a reputable person to do my windows in the south SF bay area, let me know.

BTW, it most definitly does.... ever notice all the cars with tint that are bubbled in the rear, but no where else on the other windows?

The reason why tint separates from the window is due to heat and time. Using your rear defroster will accelerate that. It takes several years, but it does do it!

No ****... really....I was assuming that you mistyped because why would you even state something so obvious and trivial .

BTW, the original comment was for Colossus, obviously NOT you, because you have NO tinited windows so it would not apply .

Because if you continued to read, you would have seen the "!" indicating sarcasm followed by my request for someone in my area to tint my windows.

Hey NOOB, an exclamation point means EXCLAMATION NOT SARCASM. It puts emphasis on your statement...

If I wanted an English lesson, I'd go here: http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=349792 (!)

However, this has become stupid, pointless, and a hijacked thread. I'm not going to argue with some kid on the Internet over what was meant to be silly in the first place.

Obviously, your 7-8 months on this forum provides you with such insight and wisdom to put this "NOOB" in his rightful place. You win. Congratulations.

Actually my wisdom and insight to put you (NOOB) in your righful place comes not from my miniscule amount of time on this forum, but from my many, many, many, years of I30 ownership, and time and effort placed into modifications on the vehicle. This forum is for ENTHUSIASTS!! Stop wasting my time with your petty posts. You are the "grown adult" concerned worthless crap and requires "guidence" for trouble shooting something as menial as "my rear defrost takes too long"......

STOP WASTING SPACE ON THIS FORUM........

Well, I am not quite the Noob you think I am. I have also owned a 98 Maxima SE. But since I bought it NEW, it never had "menial" problems such as a rear defrost. Did it ever occur to you that other owners might have had the same problem and could save me some time before I start T/Sing?

BTW, this forum is for OWNERS; unless only enthusiasts have problems with O2 sensors, CV joints, and similar recent threads.

If my petty posts are wasting your time, I suggest you don't read them. Then you won't have to take time to respond and we can both stop wasting space on this forum (or at least this thread).

Did it ever occur to you THAT NOBODY CARES about your problems with the rear defrost not working quickly enough for your standards?!? Notice that NOBODY replied to your posts (except one from Colossus), hence no one cares... The only reason that I posted here is to tell COLOSSUS that because he has tinted windows, he might not want to use that defroster too much.

That is interesting.... the banner at the top of every page says "The home for Maxima enthusiasts". Sure simple owners can join and participate, but they usually only seek help, and offer not real solid advice to others. Nor do they make an impression on the enthusiasts...

Since you seem to be mechanically challenged on this issue I will tell you what the problem is... it is the heating element in the glass.... If the light on the switch works, then you know that is not it... The defroster does eventually work, so it cannot be the wiring or connectors... The only obvious solution is the element in the glass. It has gotten old and worn out, and it is perfectly normal for elements to do this, like when heated seats stop warming how they used to when the car was brand new, and many ownners have had to replace the element in the seats because it was not heating very well....

I'm sure that "simple owners" might have some mechanical skills to contribute, whether they consider theselves enthusiasts or not. Like I said, I'm sure enthusiasts aren't the only ones who experience common mechanical problems. So I think a "simple owner" might impress forum members with better contributions than:
"wah, I think ... is mad at me"
"wah, ... wont answer my e-mail"
"wah, someone tried to say something funny and I didn't get it"

And if I'm so mechanically challenged, how did I come up with a similar problem that you described, just not as detailed?

And if no one cares, why is there over 100 views. Your unwitty banter can't be that entertaining and bringing so many views.

Now you said I'm wasting your time, but you still want to argue with me. Make up your mind. I think WE have beat this thread to death.

I think THIS is the only UNWITTY BANTER going on.....

Make no mistake, you are challenged... there is a big difference between what I said and your extremely vague hypotheisis of "the window".....

Look at the response you have created... NO ONE CARES. If it was not for this back-and-forth bullsh!t, there would be half the posts and half the views. Indeed, the reason for the extra 50 views (which is not that many, I don't know why you think it is) is to see what this "unwitty banter" is all about. They see that is totally pointless, and that is why no one has jumped in for comment. Why is that you ask? Well the answer is simple, THIS FORUM IS FOR ENTHUSIASTS! We rarley get this back-and-forth crap here on the I30 forum. The only time it occurs is when a new guy (YOU) tries to inject his horsesh!t into these threads...

You ARE a waste of time... However, that does not mean that I can't respond to moronic posts....
