Ticking noise coming from front right wheel???

OK, so when I am driving witth the windows down (now that the weather is nice and warm, at least for today), and I am driving next to a fense or building or some structure close to the road, I can hear this clicking noise coming from what I believe is the right front tire area. Now, I do not think that it is a rock stuck in my tire, or anything stuck in my tire because it is not that kind of noise. It is almost a clicking/chirping noise! NO MAX MUTS, it's not a damn BIRD! LOL

What the hell could this noise be?

Check to see if your brake pads have enough material on them. Also, have you checked your CV boot for damage or shaft for play? Here's a little link I found that gives a good overview of CV workings/diag/repair.

Hmmm, well, the brake pads are fine because I recently replaced them with the rotors, but it sounds like maybe the CV boot from what you guys have said. If that is what the problem is, then is that something that is easy for me to replace myself?

If anyone else has any suggestions on what this could be please let me know. Thanks

skeetch: Thanks for that link, it was great! I am still not sure if it is the CV boots or not though.

If the noise is intermittent (or whenever you hit a bump) and you just replaced the brakes, check to see if the shims/clips that hold the brake pads are doing their job in preventing the pads from flopping around. Also make sure the dust shield has sufficient clearance from the rotor. I'd also suggest you check the ABS ring/sensor to make sure no debris is causing interference.

If it is a continuous clicking, check to see if the tire picked up a nail (happened to my on my grand cherokee). I know you said you don't think it's a rock or the like in the treads but if the clicking occurred out of the blue then it is highly probable. If not it can also be your front bearing (service manual indicates this as a possible source for noise) although they usually give off a droning or whooing sound at moderate to low speeds when they crap out. Then again, I have seen a handful of post talking about defective bearing. Heck, my rear right bearing is bad and the car only has 28,000 miles on it.

I will look into all of that. I almost think it is the shims because it has that type of sound IMO, but its just weird. I also notice from the front driver side of the car a wooing noise like waaa waaa waaa when driving. i though it was because I needed new tires, but I now have new ones on the front and it still does it. That noise is mostly when I turn the steering wheel a little bit or when I am going around an off ramp on the highway. It gets relaly loud then! What the hell!! I want my car to be quiet and good again.

That wooing noise sounds like you have a bad wheel bearing, which is a common problem...just look at the Max forum.

As far as replacing the CV joint, here in S.Florida I paid $125 with labor. I believe you can get a refurbished CV joint for $80 and brand new one is like nearly $300 atleast from a dealership.

If it is just the bearing that need replaced then the parts are about $30 or $40 IIRC. Two seals and two bearings. Napa carries them.

Now, many times if the bearings are let go for too long the hub will be scored and need to be replaced as well. That is what happend to me. A hub is a Nissan part only and costs about $100.

Labor at a shop is a little pricy, about $200-$250. It is not too hard to do yourself, a few special ball joint seperators are required and the axel has to be pulled out too. You just take the whole steering knuckle off and take it too a shop to have the old bearings pressed out and the new ones pressed in.

I guess it is not a real easy job, took me a full day and the next moring but it was my first time. I would say it is about a 4 or 5 out of 10 on difficulty for a basic DIY'er
