weird...

i got problems with this car now..
cold start is ok, drive is ok, no noticable problems, but when i start the car, the "check" light comes on and blinks "16" times.
and on normal temp, Neutral gear the rev shoots up to 2500 and then suddenly drops down to 1500 and keeps jumping.
so when i get it back to "D" it jerks cuz the rpm is still on 2500..
checked the cable and everything i possibly cud.
anyone knows how to deal with this thing?
anyone know why this thing blinks "16" times?

Mike,

Does this need to move to the Maxima driver's section?

The cars are similar but I've never heard of that one.

I will not relax. I find it absolutely amazing at how many DO NOT READ THE STICKIES before posting something like this. If this guy would have read the ECU stickies in the 4th gen section he would have been able to resolve this problem by himself...

Read the ECU stickies in the 4th gen forum... it takes a flathead and 1 min to check the codes.

i30ds, instead of being such an A$$, why don't YOU just skip reading these posts and keep up reading the stickies!!!! Can't you see the guy is new to the forum (Dec2004) with only 23 posts??? No need to flame him for this!!

You guys really are pathetic... ever notice how ALL of the I30/I35 members that have been here for a while are almost never in this forum?!?! They like me get tired of this stupid bullsh!t and they spend most of there time in OTHER FORUMS where thay can interact with others on the same level as themselves... Hell even the moderator Mike doesnt even come around here any more...I AM THE LAST ONE that regularly comes here and after this I dont think I will be coming back to the I30/I35 forum...

Most of the time I DO skip reading these posts because I think it is rediculous to help somebody NOT willing to help themselves... Infact me telling him to check the codes is the only advise anybody has given him...He has been here since DEC 2004... that is almost 6 months. I think he should have read ALL the stickies by that time. HE obviously has a CEL and if he would have read them, he would have known how to check the codes and THEN he could have posted his problem... But as it stands NOBODY can help him as we do not know what the problem is...

But it's like this in every other car forum I have been in....Newbies ask same repeative questions.....Oldies get either upset, do not reply, or link a previous post where the question was answered. BTW all other I30/I35 forum I've seen are barely active and I thinks it's because not too many people own an I30/I35.

OFF TOPIC: Hey what happened to all the old posts. There are only 4 pages of back post. When I first came here there was like 13 pages. What happened to the rest? Are we becoming extinct!

ok, first ->i30ds, sorry brother, i know newbies like me can be a little annoying..... but I DID READ THE STICKIES. ur talking about the flathead stuff, well, first, its 98, stickies talk about 99s..
second->even if it did,
STICKIES:
""How to get the code:
http://vbxmaxima.8m.com/ecu.html""

----ok, so its blinking 16 times straight, with short pulses, so thats just 2digits i have, where do i get the rest.

""What the code means:
http://vbxmaxima.8m.com/ecudecoder.html""
-----16??? there is no 16 in here!

this is what i'm faced with right now, the throttle is going crazy, on "N" it goes up to 2500 then comes back to 1000 then falls further, and goes back up... keeps doing that for quite some time..

i'd really appreciate any help possible...
thanks

My understanding is that the thing was always blinking 16 times...before any codes were retrieved. Actually check the codes via the method in this tread...

http://vbxmaxima.8m.com/ecu.html

you should receive a set of long AND short flashes.

let me know...

OK, so help me with the reason this is not posted in the Maxima section....

i30ds makes a good point (though a little strong in tone) but If Dubai had indicated that he tried to read stickies and what he's done up to this point to retrieve codes there might have been a better initial response from everone.

Anyway, back to the matter at hand... please clarify if you're talking about a Maxima or Infiniti and post accordingly.

He drives what you call an I30, known to rest of the world as Maxima or Cefiro... So I guess to you americans it doesn't belong neither place....

His profile shows he drives a 1998 Maxima. So us Americans would call it a Maxima. Not sure where you got the I30 from?

The codes from our forums may or may not apply to Maxima/Cefiro/I30 in other countries other than Canada and USA. The emission control in other country are different from here, therefore, the car were manufacture slightly differently here.

If in fact by using the way we resolve Engine code problem may help any International enthusiasts of I30/Maxima/Cefiro. That's cool... But just heads up.... not all Cefiro/Maxima/I30's in the world are created equal.

uggg, i dont understand the big deal with different people asking the same question. its much easier to get an answer by just asking it then sifting through countless material. many a time, when the question is repeated more information is dug up on it than b4. we are here to help, not hinder. many do this to people who are new and dont know much, its easier to have ur specific questions answered then to try and derive one yourself. you probably add more stress to your life clicking the topic and writing an answer, just ignore it if you dont like it unless its directed towards you. If a question has been answered point the person right to the link, so they dont have to find it or tell them the generally direction if you dont have an answer, not that hard.

The whole point is that NO ONE can help him until he gets the codes. None of us live near this guy so we NEED all the info we can get. The only way to do this is to CHECK THE CODES. This is the first thing ANYBODY should do before asking for help with a particular problem.

The info is posted in the 4th Gen. Maxima section. The I30 is the Maxima. It just has fancy sheet metal and a few other MINOR differences. Mechanically they are identical. Engine, drivetrain, exhaust, suspension, are all the same this includes the method of retrieving the codes through the ECU.

I checked out his website, and the pictures show what you would say is an I30. However outside America they don't use the Infiniti brand that much. In fact here in Europe, and probably UAE where he is from, they deliver the Nissan cars with Infiniti trim and Nissan badging. Like mine is a MaximaQX, but if you look at the pictures you would say it's an I30... or a "Maxima in a tuxedo" like i30ds puts it....

OK, thanks for the clarification. Post anywhere you want, that's cool.

However, (again) if Dubai had indicated that he tried to read stickies and what he's done up to this point to retrieve codes there might have been a better initial response from everone.

sorry guys, yup, i shouldve told u what ive done till now for the codes, well, i found the screw on the ECU, but as in the stickies, i have to take it to a 'stop' after a clockwise turn.. the screw goes on and on, there is no stop, i actually counted the rotations, it was 22 turns, and then - I STOPPED. is it normal? does it really come to a stop? i've not reached a stop.

sorry once again,
and thanks..

Do you have 2.0 Liter V6 or 3.0 Liter V6?
The US & Canadian I30/Maxima are only available with 3.0Liter V6 and so all of the reference that we have posted in this forum or other sites relates to US Maxima/I30.

As far as I know there are:

VQ20DE
VQ25DE
VQ30DE

for the Cefiro/Maxima/I30 from Nissan/Infiniti Line up. Not sure about whether the ECU or other electrical components are compatible. So use the reference with caution. Cause it may not apply to your car in M.E.?!

Your screw is messed up. Just turn it back to the original position then turn it about one full turn (where the stop should be) then back again to check the codes.

And yes people. Please do read the stickies before posting. The stickies in this forum and which ever generation maxima forum applies to you.

Starting threads because it is easier then looking around will not get you far. Your asking help from us, yet you want it to be easier on you. Hmmmm...sounds backwards to me. I will not help a member who will not try to help themselves first. If I see a member is doing his part in helping solve the problem then I will bend over backwards to be of help. If I just see a "my CEL light is on" post I just pass on by.

Back off of I30ds, he is the only one who gave the guy advice. the rest gave him a hard time how he gave him advice.

Like sycefiro says use the reference with caution! My car has the VQ20DE engine, and the ECU in this one doesn't even have the self diagnosis. The hole where it's supposed be is present, but there is nothing inside..... So the only way I can pull codes from mine is with a computer.
