Variation on the OSCAI hacked air box theme
Variation on the OSCAI hacked air box theme
If you're planning on doing a mod like the OSCAI, where you disconnnect the resonator tube below the snorkel and run a flexible hose to it, I found a better alternative:
2" ABS pipe, straight and elbows, available in the Plumbing section of Lowe's Home Improvement store. The pipe is a perfect fit to the snorkel tube, and you can use the existing 90 degree elbow, along with a second elbow, to run the opening out the bottom of your car:

Since the two elbows are easily removable, you can take them off whenever it rains (like here in Florida), and put them back when it stops.
Anyway, I did it mainly out of curiosity, and decided afterwards to put the resonator tube back where it was after trying it out.

Now, I initially had the opening routed to come out behind the front bumper, but that would have necessitated cutting holes in the undercover, which I did not want to do.

Even if you used a wider tube, the bottleneck is still the snorkel tube...
