Re-wired my Fogs!

So I finaly decided to re-wire my fogs to come on with the city lights. I have never been real great with elecrical stuff, but tonight just confirms it.

So I realized that the write-up for the Max wasn't going to work because we dont have turn signals that double as clearance lights (thank god), and our wires are completely different colors too. The concept seemed easy enough to me though. All I need to do was find the positive lead in the fog lamp relay and connect it to any 12v source which opperates with the city lights... Easy enough huh?

Well, i used my voltmeter to find the positive lead, but made a mistake... I didn't have the car on so I found the wire with constant power. Of course I didnt realize this until after I had cut it. Solder that back together, turn on the car to find the wire with power when the fogs are on... Wouldn't you know it... There are two, and I choose the wrong one!

So long story short, if you are trying to do this on a 2000-2001 (not sure about 02+ probably the same though), you need to cut the pink wire (green stripe I think) and splice that with the red wire (positive) for the little city light bulb in the headlights (you could also use the sidemarker if you wanted).

This is a pretty cool mod though, and you can still turn the fogs on and off with the switch!

BTW, after I finished everything up, I saw that there is a damn diagram of the relay terminals right on the relay its self!

yeah tried to do that on my 96 and totally screwed something up my parking lights dont turn on with the switch anymore and i figured out that it also controls your back lights so one night got pulled over for having no back lights i explained the situation to the officer and he said for me to get home and dont drive my car till i get it fixed and he let me go. so now i have a wire running from my battery to a switch to the 12 postive wire on my fog lights and it turns them on and the rears i have no idea what i did.

Is your passenger fog bulb burnt out? That's really the only thing I can think of... Check fuses maybe?

What kind of bulbs do you have in your fogs? Did you use the Lexus capsule or have a 3000K HID kit? Dem things look hella bright for yellow fog light bulbs!

Those are just regular, off the shelf 55w H3's with the yellow capsules. And yes, I have super white LED's in the city lights. If you want to do this, go with the inverted lens LED's. I have used a couple others and they didn't fill the reflector as well as these.

bi30,

What kind of bulbs are you running in your fogs? They look really nice.

Those look great! Do you find they cut through fog & rain alot better than the OEM bulbs? What do you mean by city lights though?

I dont really find much of a difference in rain or fog (or any other time) because the HID's totaly overpower them.

City lights, or parking lights as they are sometimes called turn on all lights except the headlights (tails, sidemarkers and the little bulbs inside the lowbeams). I guess the idea is that that you dont have to bug people with your headlights when driving through the well lit city.

I just use them during the day to make me more visible... especially with the re-wired fogs now.

OMG...Those both look amazing!! NewLove's and ershi's...Couple question's...eershi what temp HID's are you fogs? 6000K?

NewLove, you have regualr 55w Hyper whites and put a yellow capsule over them, or just regular Yellow Ion bulbs? Cuz I got the Narva Rally's and they aint as yellow as yours, yours are perfect. Also, before you tried the inverted lens LEDs did you have/try Polargs? If so, and you like what you have better then I'll take your word for it and switch to whatever brand/type you got.

Also, to the A32's, is there any possible way to make our front end look like the A33's front end after we do the re-wire Fog mod with Parking Lights. Reason, I ask is because when we put ours on, my city lights show, my fogs, but also my amber parking lights next to the headlights. I wanna know if it's possible, that whe nthe headlights are off...can you make it so all you see is the white city lights and Fogs, no amber corners?

Finished my yellow capsule install yesterday. Thanks for the guidance NewLove. They do look very good. An HID kit will be next for the fogs.

I've just got some plain old 55w H3s you can find at any autoparts store, and I did install the yellow capsules. I really dont think any bulb out there can get even close to these in terms of color.

I dont think I've ever tried the polarg bulbs in my headlamps... I do think I have a couple hiden in my license plate lights though. I could replace one of the LEDs and check the difference if you like.

As far as re-wiring the corner lights on your car... I imagine you could wire them to the headlamps, but since your corners double as the turn indicators (I think) it would probably kill your signals with the lights off. You might want to check with the 4th gens, if anyone has done this I bet you would find them in there.

Yeah man, not to bug you or anything, but if you have the time or chance to do that, I'd love to know which were brighter if there were any difference. I don't even need pics or nuttin, I'll take your word for it.

Also, did you just use the Lexus capsule or did you make your own somehow? LMK. Thanks.

NewLove,

Did you give this guy permission to use your pic? He's using it to sell yellow HID kits.

I'm gonna watermark all my pics w/ my name and maxima.org.

Actually, as a photographer I can tell you that's seriously illegal. Any picture you take is automatically copyrighted, and if someone uses your picture for non-editorial purposes you have every right to demand they either discontinue use of the picture or compensate you for use of your image. First I'd take a picture of his ebay listing with your photo to have it on record. Then if you contact this guy and explain to him tactfully about copyright laws, you could tell him you are willing to let him continue use of the image for half off your next HID purchase or something. It's worth a shot...

That'd be nice, but $200+ is a lot for one pic. The guy could take one himself of someone else's car or simply ask another customer to take a pic and give it to him for free. Most likely he'll just stop using the pic, but like I said if you are tactful and ask for reasonable compensation you might get something out of it.

Oh BTW, nice fogs to everyone who posted pics. The yellow ones and the 10,000k ones are my fav.

(And with that gratuitous comment, I have met the 15 post count rule).

That's hilarious!

Hmmm.... Where have I seen that before? I think I will shoot out an e-mail just to give this guy some crap. I can't say that I really care (I'm actually quite flattered ), but after all, it is false advertising. LOL

Do you have an aftermarket keyless entry?

Maybe that was installed to flash the city lights and when you tapped into those it caused the fogs to blink too.
