service engine soon linght

I have service engine soon light on.
I checked the owner's manual and the light will be on when there's a problem with exhaust system (O2 sensors or MAF etc I presume).
It's just the light came on after changing the alternator. Should I just reset it? how do I reset it?

Either read the FAQs in the 5th gen forum regarding the SES light (how to pull the code, how to reset it) or go to Autozone/Advance Auto Parts/Etc. and get them to hook up a code reader to pull the code for you and (maybe) reset the code.

Sorry ds, I'm geussing you're saying this thread should be locked because it is in the wrong spot, but I just wanted to say this:

Did you not disconnect the battery when you replaced the alternator?? That's not very smart, I always disconnect the battery if I'm working on something anywhere even remotely close to the starter or alternator, or if theres gonna be fuel. If you didn't disconnect the battery you should read the service manual next time before working on your car. If you did disconnect the battery maybe you messed up that pita electrical connecton on the alt. or knocked something else loose, check the codes.

I dont know too much about the 5th gen ecu code reading... once you get the code definition, we might be able to help... but once again, if you get that far you might as well go directly to the 5th gen guys who probably have come across the exact same problem before.
