startup squeal

i think i have seen this topic before on here but i wasnt able to find it again. every so often, actually right now all the time, my car makes a squeal when starting up. only when the ignition turns over. there are no other problems or codes. drive belts have just been changed among other maintenance procedures although i heard this noise before the maintenance. any ideas or suggestions?

I have something similar, but it's more like a growl(similar to something rubbing). It only happens when it's cold. Has me very confused. I've never heard something like this on a car.

I had a rubbing sound on cold startup with my I35. It would last a minute or so. It turned out to be a motor mount, which fixed the issue for me.

Starter motor was probably replaced with a non-oem cheepy and now it squeels.

Could be the tensioner. If the belts were just changed they could have stretched a tad and then when they are at their coldest they are giving you noise.

I had a cold start ony squeek that spread to a now and then warm start squeek so I swapped the belts as it was their time anyhow. When we looked at the tensioner it was VERY loose.

most likely, my was replaced with "rebuild" one. it doesn’t' make noise anymore and car starts fine, but it disengages a little late. Something I will have to live with for as long as it doesn’t make noise.

I had to tighten my tensioner and the noise went away

the starter was replaced by nissan dealership here in mexico, but i will ask about the parts used. i will also consider the greasing option and the tensioner option. i dont believe its the cold start because it does that in a warm and cold start, and im in mexico and i gotta tell u, it aint that cold. thanks for all the info.

IT is the starter from when the starter engages the part taht shoots out to go against the flywheel stays out for little extra than its suppose to. It happend to me too and i went to the nearest infiniti dealership and they were gonna charge me 400 bucks to get a new starter and replace it. I bought a new one from Autozone for 50 dollars and replaced it in two hours. IT hasnt happened since.

50 bucks for new starter? Sounds to good to be true, probably is. I'll be sure to check on that next time i'm near AZ

ok, so the starter was not replaced. i thought it was. had the same starter since around 2000, so heres another question. should i have them open it and service it if it can be serviced (the greasing option) or should i go ahead and have them put a new one on (if eventually it will need to be done)??? the guy quoted me around $200 bucks (nissan dealership here in mexico) which actually sounds a little too cheap but im sure it will be more once he gets exact numbers and prices. i dont have time to do it myself right now.

by the way, the noise hasnt come so often in past day or two. it used to come and go until last month when it came, it was consistently noisy everytime except for past day or two which i just mentioned. thanks again for your help.

shaking+noise during startup

For the past month, my engine has been squealing during startup, similar to what was described here. However, today after work, in addition to the noise, the car shook during startup, so I don't think the grease fix everything.

My car's 1997 i30 with about 45k miles. Oil change and checkup was done at the dealer late December. The problem only occurs when I have not started the car for about 8+ hours, but I don't think it's temperature since I live in the south. After startup, everything is normal.

What problem could cause the whole thing to shake? Any input's appreciated. Thanks!

Sorry to resurrect an ANCIENT thread, but after replacing all belts and assuring good tensino, I'm still getting the startup squeal.

Could anyone update this link with one that works??

(Takes you to the motorvate site, but will not bring up the specific article..)

Thanks
