I have a 2002 I35 with the stock 17" wheels and Bridgestone Turanza tires. It's about time to get some new tires but I heard that there are much better tires out there. I'm primarily looking for a very quiet tire that offers great ride comfort and decent performance in the rain. I did some research on Tirerack.com and saw that the Bridgestone Turanzas and Potenzas were not thought of highly by other I35 owners. I did notice that they had a tire available for my car that pretty much got excellent reviews across the board, the Goodyear Assurance Triple Tread I think it was called. They were about $140 a piece and I wanted to get the opinions of other I30/I35 drivers before I spend $500-$600 on tires. What tires would you reccomend? I know this probably belongs in the wheels and tires section but I thought it would be a good idea to ask other Infinti owners first since my main concerns are low noise and ride comfort.

You might want to move over to a 225/50/17 sized tire. There are a lot more choices out there in that size and it's still within spec.

I've used Bridgestone RE92s - crap
Kumho KH11s - good only if you never experience snow
Toyo Proxes TPT - running these now, LOVE them.

I've actually just put in an order for new Kumho ASX tires. $88/tire from TireRack is a steal. I had my buddy put them on his '02 GLE and I also put them on my mother's I35.

Check the wheels and tires section of this forum, lot of discussion on tires in there. The Toyo Proxes 4 get good reviews too and they're now available in 225/50/17.

But I'd move away from 215/55/17 if I were you and go to 225/50. Lots more choice for lots less $. Hence the reason my buddy with the GLE switched over.

I'm sure that MetaOrbit is right about the brands and sizes, but i would recommend Maxxis MA-551 if anybody needs stock size 215/55/16. That's the best tyre i've been driving with!

The first number is the tread width in mm. (225)

The second number is the aspect ratio, and basically corresponds to the sidewall height (50). A way of looking at this is that a 50 series sidewall is 50% the height of the width of the tread. In this case a 50 series sidewall is 50% x 225mm. Likewise, a 45 series tires would be 45%, and so on.

And of course the final number is the wheel diameter in inches.

I'm in need of new tires for my I35, and am looking at the Michelin Hydroedge. However, the closest size they offer is 225/55/R17. Will this fit?

That might be a little tall of a sidewall.

As stated above, look at 225/50/17 for more options.
