Sluggish, no power, tranny probs

I just got a 2000 I30t. It has 135,000 miles on it. It has been really sluggish and getting really bad mileage. I'm only getting around 220 miles per tankful. I really have to give it a lot of gas to accelerate and am getting out accelerated by little econo cars leaving lights. Also, the tranny is shifting kinda funny. It seems to take 2-3 seconds to complete the shift once its starts to shift. If I accelerate hard, it shifts really hard. I'm going to get the fluid replaced here soon, but I wanted to know if there's anything else that could be causing it. The tranny fluid looks good and does not seem burnt. Thanks!

Classic example of MAF failure.

Get a new one if you haven't already.

Also change all the fluids, oil, tranny, switch to synthetic if possible, look in the fluids section of this forum for recommendations and DIY steps.

Does anyone have an instructions on MAF replacement? None of the links in the stickies are working right since the site went down. For instance, the MAF how to link in the 5th gen forum leads to the posts for an HID Group buy in the Group Buy forum. I also can't seem to find any instructions through Google after endless searching. Thanks!

Take off negative on battery, remove old MAF, install new MAF, reinstall battery and fire it up. Given you have no check engine lights or SES right now.

When I'm replacing the MAF, do I have to replace the whole tube as a complete assembly, or can I simply unscrew the torx screws that look to be holding the sensor in the tube and swap new for old while leaving the original tube in place?

The entire assembly, contact Dave B (his sn here) or Courtesy Nissan for best pricing on a new MAF.

Well, I replaced the MAF yesterday. That seemed to take care of the power issues. It's like a whole new car. However, I'm still getting some hard shifts. I've heard about solenoids in the transmission causing shifting problems. What are these and what symptoms do they cause? What else could be causing harsh shifts? I'm going to have the tranny fluid replaced this weekend. Thanks!

where did you buy it finally? DaveB ?? How much did it cost ? I'm getting code for MAF and may need to replace it unless it goes away. I just noticed two days ago that the harness didn't clip onto the MAF unit completely and just clipped it correctly; hence the hope the code would go away.

Wow. . sounds good . please update us on this situation. I am starting to feel my car struggle to accelerate. The car just doesnt drive like it did when I brought it home.

Problems:
1. Extreme suspension problems
2. Sluggish acceleration

It has curved my opinion on Infiniti. If the car didnt look so good, I wouldve started to shop for a new one. Biting the bullet, and doubling up my faith in Infiniti.

You just said what I have to Chester ... It just doesn't drive like it did when I brought it home ... Extreme suspension problems ... donno if it's because Chicagoland has bad roads, or if it's just the north winter snow & salt but it's a floating boat over many bumps on highways here ...

Earlier it was bad O2 sensors resulting in bad mileage and maybe affecting acceleration as well, I first replace one front O2, and delayed in replacing the second front O2 .. now I finally replaced the second O2 sensor as well, now it's the MAF ... I haven't checked for the KS code but will do it this evening ... all in all, I was happy for over a year, less happy with the problems ...

now latest thing, the passenger door window will not roll up, it dropped like 4 inches and I'm manually pulling the glass window up ...

suspension + axles will eat atleast a 1000 bux imho ... big money ... but I'm getting tempted to put down the money for what looks to be a very nice car from outside ...

question to these posters...when your car was sluggish, you didnt have any issues with the car bucking right? the car i am looking at is not bucking or anything, just that it lacks power..gas mileage looks pretty decent...looks like its getting 28/29mpg
