2000 i30 rear view mirror mounting

My rear view mirror fell off and broke. I got a replacement. The metal piece is still on the windshield. There is another piece that goes onto that and then the mirror. Even after tightening everything you can just lift the mirror off the mount. I have looked at schematics and I am not missing any parts and it only seems to go together one way. BTW Infiniti wants $1010 for a new mirror.

I don't know why the mirror won't stay on, but I looked up the price at an Infiniti dealer in my area, Grubbs Infiniti.

Was the dealer by you wearing a mask and pointing a gun at you when he told you that price?

I found 2 mirrors. Not sure which one is the correct one but they are pretty close to the same price.

INFINITI I30

MISCELLANEOUS > REAR VIEW MIRROR > MIRROR ASSY-INSIDE
Part Number: 96321-53U00
MSRP: $850.78 Online Price: $680.62

MISCELLANEOUS > REAR VIEW MIRROR > MIRROR ASSY-INSIDE - F/AUTO ANTI GLARE MIRROR - F/SUNROOF + LEATHER SEAT
Part Number: 96321-53U02
MSRP: $866.08 Online Price: $692.86

Still no bargain, but...

I saw the same prices but they said due to it being a discontinued item the new list was $1010.00

Even $600 is retarded for a mirror. I just cant figure out how the hell it stayed mounted on there. All the pieces fit together but don't hold together.

There's a small clip that holds the mirror onto the metal piece. For me, it would constantly slip off one or the other whenever I'd try to put the mirror on. My dad helped me and put a dab of silicone to hold the clip onto the metal piece on the windshield to keep it from slipping off.

The mount on the windshield is different. I would need to remove the old one and attach a new one.

I have spare i30 mirror and of course I disassembled it and reassembled it. Same problem you had. I gave it about 3 mins of my time and it seems I found a way to work it. I'll try to describe this to the best of my ability.
1. Lay the mirror flat so that the windshiel mount is on the left, and the bottom(button) side of the mirror is on your right.
2. Use an appropriate Philips head to unscrew the holding screw all the way until the clip falls off.
3. Now you should have 3 pieces: black mounting plate, the clip and the mirror. The hook side of the metal clip is on top
4. Mount the metal clip with the bottom going into the black plate first, then the hook. It will be held back by both the bottom and the top(hook) of the clip, so just slide it down.
The point here is to have the clip held by 2 points, not just the hook but the bottom as well
5. Now put the mirror plastic on it and put the screw back in
6.Enjoy your tightly mounted rear view mirror

Question: What caused your mirror to fall in the first place?

Edit: I realize the orientation of all this will be off since you're mounting it on the windshield. I did my test on a desk. Just make sure you hook both top and bottom of the clip
