2002 I35 Squeaking Noise on Freeway Front Driver Side (Video Link)

Hi Everyone,

I've been a fan of these forums, but I've recently decided to join after being unable to find a solution to a squeaking noise I've been experiencing.

I've attached the video of this issue at the link below:
(The noise is faint due to my cell phone camera)

Recent Fixes mostly unrelated to the potential source of this noise in the last 2 years include:

- All new engine mounts which reduced the frequency and loudness of the noise for about a week (This was 3 weeks ago)
- All new struts and shocks
- New front driver side axle
- New inner driver side tie mount
- New Spark Plugs
- New Tires

The noise has been particularly more pronounced in the last three months, and I've had two mechanics check out the car. One thought the issue was related with the axle (which turned out to be not) and the other recommended to drive it until it broke down or sell it as finding the source would require costly exploratory replacement of new parts.

They both said the lower & upper control ball joints and arms were good, shocks and struts fine, and they weren't able to find issue with the installation of the engine mounts, nor deficiency on the outer tie rod.

The noise is pretty pronounced when on rough freeways (aka Los Angeles style pot hole ridden roads) and has been bugging me.

My most likely suspicions at this point is either a bad outer tie rod, or a bad wheel bearing, but I'm really not sure.

Any direction would be appreciated.

My guess is a heat shield.

How are your sway bar links?

I forgot to mention, the Swaybar links along with the bushings were replaced approximately 4 months ago and they appear to be fine.

As for the heat shield, is there any particular way to isolate it without yanking all around on the bottom?

Also I do feel a slight vibration on the steering wheel when I'm driving freeway speeds on non-smooth roads. I'm not sure if this is any more than usual, but would this be related to potentially bad outer tie rods?

Might not work but if u have some wd-40 or some type of spray lubricant..spray it on the hood latch and every where the hood makes contact when you close it..see if it reduces the noise.

Update:

I've replaced the wheel bearing and hub for the front drivers side wheel and the noise appears to have subsided.

I will provide a follow up if the noise returns.
