My 1997 I30 is back on the road but I need help
Hey all,
Late last year I slid off the freeway into a curb damaging my I30. I wasn't able to fix it, due to being in school. however over this weekend I tacked the car and got it driving again. I had to replace the tranny solenoids, pan, and valve body. it was a hassle because the metal was bent in such a way that the pan basically got smashed against the transmission. In the time being I bought a rough 98 Maxima and used some parts from the I30 to get it running and that serves me well to this day, but I refused to give up on the Infiniti. She drives now and shifts properly.
I am having some issues though and need some help:
First the gear selector is stuck in park and the only way to get it into drive is to move the little white plastic piece holding the peg into park. What is the best way to fix this
Second, when I start the car a very loud noise comes from underneath the drivers side. probably an exuast hole. What is the best way to fix this?
I have to get the car tagged and I need to pass emissions I am certain it will fail with the exhaust issues.
Thanks for all your help

Post up pics of your shifter and the part you're referring to, it will help diagnose it.
As for holes in your exhaust, chances are you just need to replace the pipe with the hole. You can try to patch the hole, but if you aren't thorough with your prep work, it will fail very quickly.

Got it fixed and driving. No noise was a hole in the cat; got that replaced. The shifter was fixed after I pushed the small white plastic pin back and now it locks correctly and come out when the brakes are pressed. Now I just need to go get emissions done and get it re tagged.
