my pops just got me an I30 whats the cheapest modification do u recommend also how do i take out the headliner plan on installing starlights
Taking out the headliner is annoying.
Pull the sun visors off
Pull the rear view mirror
Pull maplight/sunroof controls
Pull handles from above the door
Pull off all the pillar pieces
Pull headliner and you need to pull it out rear door with seats put all the way down
If you are in there, put clamps on the sunroof hoses that drain down.
I'm on my way to becoming active here again as I finally am able to drive the I30 once again! Been patiently waiting for insurance to drop (was quoted an extra $300 a month at one point recently) for her and that time has finally come!
It's been quite a while since her last startup and was quite surprised that she turned over right away. It was like a time capsule being inside the car after almost two years and it's surprisingly super clean inside. Lots of projects are on the table now with the Eclipse and I30 taking up time and my empty wallet.
Planning on prioritizing a manual swap for the I30 rather than a 3.5 swap as it seems like there has been lots of developments in 3.5 swaps since my last visit. Transmission was starting to show signs at 326k of letting go so maybe in the market for a swap. Maybe also moving to VA at some point as well as all the other stuff going on. Lots of things to come, eventually...
Nice to see you active again, I shelved the 5sp swap on mine for the winter so I can focus on work and IT certs. Once it stops raining I will begin again.

Be careful with the A, B, and C fuzzy pillars. They are extremely fragile as I've actually broken my B and C pillars and had to get replacements from the junkyard. Replaced the B pillars with fuzzy and C pillars with plastic because I could never pull them off without them shattering.

Great to be back! I need to catch up on everyone's builds since I've been inactive
Got some new tires on I30 recently and started to daily her again and she's running well again. Nothing fancy about the tires, just 225/50 from Walmart. I tried these on my Eclipse on 225/45 and I was quite impressed with the traction on them, especially on the mountains.
First thing I remember was the Auto Climate Controls were partially lit due to the bulbs being busted. Ordered some from superbrightleds.com (NEO 3mm) and replaced them. I do quite a bit of night time driving so this is nice to finally have done.
While I was here I also changed out my drawer to the black trim one instead of my original wood trim. I've had this piece for a while (around a month or so after parking the I30) so it's nice to see it finally installed.
I didn't take a picture of this but I also changed my key ring light to led (T5/74 bulb). Nothing wrong with it but I had some spares from when I changed some bulbs in my Eclipse. They are the same as my gauges so a Pinkish Purple color.
I did however damage the trim piece around the shifter, so I'll be making a trip to the junkyard soon to hopefully find a good condition one. And maybe find another rear center on the trunk since mine is leaking water quite badly.
Nice, I still cant get my AAC lights to come on, but I dont drive my I30 much as I bought a newer car (2020 Sentra SV) I am keeping the Infiniti still looking to finish the 5spd swap on mine
Pretty much I've owned this car since I started driving, and I got her at about 250k miles and since then have put in 51k miles myself since 2016. I haven't done much to it in the first couple years I've owned this car, pretty much keeping maintenance up and making sure it ran well. Recent maintenance within the last 6 months (~10k miles from now) included a transmission fluid replacement, regular oil changes at 5k, new shocks all around, and new axles. Funny thing about those axles tho, when me and my dad were changing them, the driver side completely broke off at the boot closest to the wheel bearing right before you would pull them out. To say the least that scared me because I've been driving for so long with the axles like that and I had no idea that would happen then.
I absolutely love this car, hasn't let me down often (starter randomly died, but was easy enough to fix in a parking lot with common tools) and she's pretty powerful. To be honest, the one thing holding her back is the 4-speed auto, which can't make up its mind in city driving and highway never really picks up speed by itself without an overdrive switch toggle.
This thread is mostly going to be updates on this car, not including the regular maintenance stuff, but changes in the car. Most likely would be more cosmetic changes, and maybe a 5 speed swap if I can find parts/donor car to complete that. I won't lie, I've bought a lot of parts off of eBay and Amazon for most of the parts I've put in that I didn't find lying around xD.
Current modifications: Non-OEM Cefiro headlights (randomly found it at my grandparent's repair shop) with BiXenon HID H4 bulbs (Updates on this are below) Saving these for a proper retrofit. Thinking Morimoto Mini D2S projectors for them.

I have a 1997 INFINITI I30 with a premium Bose sound system. I ordered a wiring harness from Crutchfield.
PAC ROEM-NIS2 Wiring Interface (Pac-audio.com)
I am installing this aftermarket radio unit
Pyle Radio (PLTS78DUB)
I spent all day soldering wires and testing the radio. I have an A/C to D/C home adapter and verified the radio works, but I get no power once inside the vehicle. I did notice the factory radio would not turn on if the Antenna was not connected, could that be my power issue?
Another issue I'm having is wiring the speakers, I wired the power to the cigarette lighter temporarily, the harness has both High level and low level speaker hookups, I attached the low level, and I get no sound, Its already dark outside, I spent my entire Sunday doing this and I also called Crutchfield and Had gotten an incompetent tech agent, he couldn't help? Interesting huh, I think his name was Jack, anyways, he claimed he couldn't hear me clearly, that my phone was static, Since when are new phones static, there all digital .
