Hi Everyone. I have an 2003 Infiniti i35 with 49,000 original miles on it. I purchased it last year (2023) from my mechanic, with 27K miles on it, who had just purchased it at a local estate sale. The original owner passed away shortly after buying it in 2003, and the car was stored in a heated garage by his widow, along with many other of his cars, and was regularly maintained during storage. The car is in like new condition in all respects, and my longtime mechanic went over it with a fine tooth comb and put brand new Yokohama Sport tires, new spark plugs, new battery and fresh oil in it before selling it to me. At the time, I hesitated to buy it because despite the provenance, I was concerned at the age of the car. I was mainly concerned with the wiring. However, I took a chance and purchased the car for $5000. It has turned out to be the best $5 grand I have ever spent. The car is not only incredibly comfortable, it is a beast. From a dead stop to 60 MPH, it is probably in line with the specs. However, from a rolling start, the car is very quick. Definitely faster than 15.9 seconds in the quarter mile. Everyone who has ridden in it is amazed at how fast it is, because it looks so inconspicuous. This thing gets to 100 MPH in a flash. I haven't had a chance to push it to the limit but clearly it will blow past 100 no problem. My first question is, is this car limited to 120 MPH as I have heard? If so, any way to unlock the limiter? Second question, I understand that the specs say 255 BHP, but was it common for Nissan to purposely understate the horsepower on these cars? Because honestly, this feels like more than My Baby!
255 BHP. Lastly, are there any upgrades I could make to the car that would increase horsepower, or should I just leave it stock - given how incredibly well it is running? Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks.
I feel the same way about mine. I got mine with 148k miles on it back last August. I got it for $700 and only thing it needed was an alternator and a new battery. It feels like highway robbery lol. People who have rode in mine can’t believe how fast it is. I would definitely give it a tune up like change the oil,air filter spark plugs (make sure they are double platinum) and change the transmission fluid. Just drain and refill. However much comes out Im gonna say 4-5 quarts put new back in and then do it again in a few months. Everything works in my car including the back window shade. I had a 1998 infinti i30t and sold it for my 2002 i35 and would most definitely choose the I35 over the i30. These cars are extremely well built. As far as upgrades you can look into a new intake, new exhaust headers, cold air intake and a underdrive pulley. From what Ive read all those would probably bump the hp over 300.
