Maxus: June 27th at MIR!!

Just letting you guys know that I have reserved MIR dragstrip for June 27th 2009. Gates will open at 8:30 am and the track will be totally ours untill 2pm. However we will be able to keep our event going for some time after. We are thinking of ending the track event totally at 5pm so that we can have other events in the evening. We will have our carshow set up at the track and were hoping Kevin Goodwin can get a mobile dyno for that day as well. Yesterday I spoke with Alicious and Aaron to confirm that they are cool with everything so i just thought it was time to post. I will have further updates later.

All MIR requires is that we bring in $3000 at the door, which will be easy with just the Maxima crowd. But if we bring in $4000+, we get 10% back. So I'd like to invite some communities with some REALLLLLY fast Nissans. I am hoping some single digit Zs or Skylines can race that day. We will probably have a Quick 8 class in which if you're not doing single digits or low 10s, then you won't have a chance of winning. I'd love to see that!

MIR requires no money up front either. But I'm not sure if there is a penalty or fee if we do not bring in $3000. I'm not worried about that since $3K is easy to do with only 50 Maximas racing and 100 spectators.

We would probably charge an extra $10-15 for those that want to enter the heads up Maxima classes for the trophy race. Just to cover our trophy expenses. The Supra guys in Las Vegas were even able to give $200 or so to some of the class winners. They had large checks and everything. That might be possible with another couple sponsors. A real cash win plus a big trophy should bring out some fast cars. The dealerships Corey has spoke with might be interested in taking care of the large checks or more since they seemed eager to sponsor the entire track event.

I'm glad that we can still be at the track until 5pm. Once our eliminations end at around 2pm, we may need more time to wrap up the judging for the car show. Some people that are going to be in the car show will also be racing. Plus, they will be on and off the mobile dyno hopefully. If that works out. So, we may need to keep judging up until 3 or 4pm.

I spoke with Kevin Goodwin about MIR today. He knows he's in charge of finding a mobile dyno. Hopefully, he'll be able to find a dyno shop with a mobile dyno that is willing to sponsor the ENTIRE track day. That way, we won't have to pay much, or if any, for renting the dyno.

This SINGLE day at the track will be the defining point of Maxus 09 DC!

Thanks Corey!

Just a notice to everyone that we've been working really hard on trying to secure this, no one as hard as Corey and I really appreciate all of his hard work. Without question this wouldn't be (MIR especially) happening without him and so I just want to extend the thanks to him.

Now, onto the location. Please check that thread as we resume this conversation now that the track is settled.

Not sure. But good question. If Sat is a complete rain out, then I wonder if MIR can do anything small on Sunday.

Can you find out if they have a hose/faucet I can use to give a detailing demonstration, as well as any covered area?

That's a good option. Maybe we can have a detailing meet early Sat morning and not hold the Car Show until maybe noon that day. The drag strip guys will be busy racing in the morning up until 2pm. So if they want to be included in the Car Show, they will probably miss the Detailing meet in the morning and won't be penalized for drag strip dirt on their car.

But having that at the track would be nice if it's possible. We wouldn't have to worry about finding a car wash and contacting the owner.

Also, Corey needs to find out about what would happen if Saturday is a complete Rain Out. Would we be able to do anything on Sunday at the track?

I have a meeting tomorrow at mir to discuss the what would happen if there was a rain out and also the issue of the auto cross event. I have 2 questions for you guys.

1. What would you like to happen if sat is a rain out?
2. Josh are you available tomorrow during the day?

We'd have to have it on sunday I guess. I tried to call your work number but your voice mail box was full. That's the only number I have for you. I am out of town right now, so you'll have to call my cell or email me if you want to reach me.

Since we're supposed to lend our opinions, here is mine: I DON'T want to invite "really fast Nissans and Skylines" personally. Why? Because this is the Maxima meet. If a few Maxima.org members with non-maxima cars show up (me, TAPOUT, Cutler, etc) that is one thing.

But if you have a bunch of super-fast ZClub guys or a Skyline there, then the whole show/meet will be about THOSE cars rather than the Maximas.

I personally don't give a **** about Z's or Skylines. There are plenty of other shows/race events where these cars can be seen. Let's keep MAXUS about Maximas. If we MUST invite other cars, invite the Altima guys, since Altimas essentiall ARE maximas, lol.....and are unlikely to "steal the show" from org'ers cars.

I really do appreciate everyone's opinions. That's what we NEED to hear.

My take on this is, Who wants to see a bunch of Maximas do 14-16 second 1/4 mile runs? Well sure, I bet there are a LOT of people that do. Since, most people are interested in the Maximas that are faster than they are. So if you run faster than 13 seconds, then the majority of people would be interested in watching heads up drag racing!

I believe we will be able to bring in enough Maximas to meet our attendance quota. But I was just scare of people getting bored watching Maximas. So I was thinking of bringing in some 1000+hp Nissans to make some passes. I think it would be a cool thing to add. But I like your point of, do we really want 30-50 Z's taking over our event?

It would be ok to invite a select few awesome Datsuns, Zs or Skylines. But we need to be careful not to let them take over.

We may invite the 3.5 Altima guys just b/c they share our motor. But, I would like to really only promote Maxus as a "Maxima enthusiast" event. So, we don't need to openly invite the general Nissan community. But if others are in agreement, then we may just try to do a Maxima only type deal at this track event. If we find out we are hurting for registered racing entries, then we may need to quickly start inviting the general Z or Altima community openly on their forums.

I'm just thinking out loud. If anybody wants to jump in and offer their 2 cents, PLEASE DO!

IMO, if you wanted to invite a few fast cars that you know of to make a few passes that would be fine but I would not want to invite entire other groups of cars....especially if they are a lot faster than us I love seeing wheel standin' S-10's but I would not go to a Maxima event with the expectation of seeing one.
