MAXUS 2010 in NYC!!
Organization was a pile of **** this year
Judges had no idea WTF they were doing
At the time of awards or in general
A fully modified member with a sc3.5 5.5 won lightly modified
It was a piece of **** compared to the organization of 09
Think of it this way
2010 organized by crack heads
2009 organized by well educated people who wanted the show to succeed
The show and track was rubbish

This is what was listed:
Vehicles entered into the "HEAVILY MODIFIED" class should be cars that have any of the following:
1.
Turbo/Supercharger/Nitrous
2.
Any kind of full body kit
OR, more than 5 of the following "major" mods:
*
Exhaust
*
Aftermarket Rims
*
BBK (Big Brake Kit)
*
Coilovers
*
Springs/struts
*
Swaybars
*
Headers/ypipe
*
Major lighting (headlight swap, etc)
*
Partial body kit/lips
*
SFCs or LTBs
*
Major interior mods (race seats, custom seat covers)
*
Custom paint job
*
Other individual mods that cost over about $500.
There were several cars classified as lightly modified that really should have been heavily modified. That's fine, its up to them how they want to classify it, but tell us. I know it's about having fun and seeing other cars and not about winning, but don't give false hope. From what I saw, the second part was completely ignored. Everything without a full body kit or FI was "lightly modified". There were about a dozen knuckleheads, myself included, who rolled up with 3-4 "major mods" on the second part of that list, and forked over $20 because they thought they had a realistic chance at winning. They didn't, because cars with Stillen lips, BBKs, aftermarket 18" wheels, lighting mods, full exhausts, 00VI swaps, etc. were all entered in "lightly modified".
Maxus 2010. Wow, I regret attending this event.
So first, we all gave you the benefit of the doubt with the past few months. The website is still incomplete even after we've asked for the longest time. The logo was completely disgusting. Maxus09 had so much more organization before the event even happened it was embarrassing.
Let's start at the beginning.
Meet and Greet: Bazookas. The parking was in a Sam's Club lot. It was stated to park at Walmart. Same thing, right? It was at 7 PM, and no one organizing the event was there. I know this because I was there at 7:15 PM. Just literally set for dinner, nothing else. The hosts showed up at 11 PM, handing out pamphlets. If we wanted to leave after the terrible dinner and had no way of meeting any new members, the info wouldn’t have been given unless I stayed until 11. Also, use showdowns car as a table for your T-shirts. Solid respect for other peoples cars.
Track:
The lack of organization and professionalism was amazing. Guilt trip your attendees for the cost of your event you chose to do voluntarily again, please. RedlineMax does not have a website nor any contact info to be a legitimate company. Therefore, it’s clearly a group of guys or one single person doing this because they chose to. The lady at the gate was clueless to entrance and show fees. Driving in there is no direction to where I should place my car. Okay, so I park my car and wait for the thing to be judged by guys that have NO idea about the rules, classifications or even what to look for in a properly modified Maxima? First things first, don’t EVER touch anyone else’s car out of respect. ChinoX, I don’t need your hand resting on my window and please remove your arm off of s1mply_v’s freshly painted door. If this is a car show, judges should be able to view a car, ask the owner with courtesy to view all aspects of it, and have a proper score written down. I read the rules to a tee to see where my car stood, and I was in Heavily Modified. I overheard the judges say I sat in Lightly Modified. Did you even see any of the obvious modifications based on your OWN RULES?
We had to sit for 3 hours after judging was over waiting for the awards at 5 PM, while it was literally timed for the track only. The awards ceremony couldn’t have come any sooner and been more disappointing. It was embarrassing how disorganized and clueless how the awards were given. An S/C’d 5th gen with 5.5 front end conversion should be awarded all day, but not for Lightly Modified. It is disrespectful to the owner for all the hard work he put into it. You had no idea who had what car, what award, and what to do. The event was in shambles and you know it. Good job. Stay away from event planning as your career.
This event is an embarrassment for Maxima enthusiasts and literally destroyed my reputation raving about Maxus to those who I invited showing it was the complete opposite of the experience I had at Maxus 2009.

The lack of professionalism was unacceptable. When judging my car, I stood by in the event that i was asked any questions about my mod list, or about the car in general. Without my consent of any type of consultation the judges acted very "sketchy" manner, and unlocked my vehicle, opened the truck, and looked through my car. Not that i have an issue with judging of my vehicle as it is a car show, but some of my personal belongings were in the trunk for safe keeping and they were then exposed by the inconsiderate judges. I am extremely disappointed in the overall event, and this being my first major maxima event, it will probable be my last. I drove over 300 miles, and took time out of my personal life, and was just overly disappointed and disrespected. Never again will i make the mistake to spend the money to be manipulated, disrespected, quilt-tripped, and looked down upon my people who dont know me. I stand up for my self, and i cant believe someone would attach there name and/or business to an event that treated their customers and patrons like that. Uncalled for, and unnecessary. Im sorry for anyone who fell victim to this poor excuse for a "major maxima enthusiast event." For those who stayed home.... smart move. You didnt miss anything.
Damn I'm hearing all around that it was no good. That blows man. I'm guessing the organizers gave it their best shot. So good for them. Hopefully it will be better in following years. Learn from mistakes and move on. On a lighter side... Any pics of the actual events?
+1.. i would like to see some pics/videos or even post the times of what ppl ran.. did anyone break any records?
So! Where is 2011 going to be? Any takers? lol
Buyers beware, local pick up recommended. Slow to ship out items already paid for.

Upside:
I met Mr. Cattman...he's a very nice guy. I even got to drive with him in the NYC Times Square drive. I enjoyed all the racing as well. The silver 5th gen w/ the CF trunk was awesome.
Downside:
I won't lie...as much as I had fun, the venue SUCKED. The food was lame and expensive and you could tell that some of the vendors didn't even want us there. Track music selection could have been better, but some of it wasn't that bad. The area didn't look all that great either (aside from all the hilly roads...that was fun). I didn't expect the $20 per person either. That was stupid considering I could have parked my car somewhere else, walked down the road then walked through some back trees to the parking lot unnoticed and watched FOR FREE. Also, I've noticed that each region tends to be a little bit clique-ish. We should all branch out more...after all we're here with a common interest.
All in all, I still give all the organizers credit because in reality, they didn't have to set this up at all. I couldn't have done it. I do, however, feel bad for anyone who had to travel a great distance only to have a terrible time.

I am disagreeing with most here I guess. I have organized big events (successes & less so
) before and there are always people who complain about stuff, but very few step up to help organize. Save the complaints and be the first to volunteer to organize next year. You'll find it is not as easy as it seems.
I can't comment on the car show as I wasn't involved, but did see a bunch of people putting in considerable time cleaning while coming back from track runs. They looked real clean fellas!
I thoroughly enjoyed racing even though I'm a complete track-noob. The only comments I had about the track was some of the officials were not considerate to others as I think they expected everyone to know where to go and what to do in the pit area and such. When talking to multiple racers, we really wanted to go to the right places at the right times, just a bunch of track noobs. I imagine the officials felt like they were trying to herd cats.
I was also surprised to find out that everyone in the car had to pay to get in.
Someone above commented on Bazookas/Sam's Club. There was a photo posted somewhere that had the exact location to park, I guess not everyone saw the map. But I disagree about not meeting new people, as there was a solid 70 cars parked there. I had dinner at Bazookas, the food was pretty good and the waitresses were easy on the eyes
overall, I had a LOT of fun racing and look forward to today's events. Now to pack up the room and get outside and clean the track mud off the car

My 7thGen time slips ranged from 14.5-14.8 (stock engine/intake/exhaust) over ~10 runs. I wish I had my ScanGuage plugged in to find out the temps the engine was running (it was freakin' hot). I lost in the playoffs to a far superior car by 0.05 seconds. My opponent made it close by missing a shift, thanks for giving me hope only to squash it when I picked up my slip
That had to be one of the closest races of the day. GREAT time!!!
PS - any update on the bee sting ?/ambulance victim?

^my girlfriend is fine. She's allergic but didn't have a bad reaction.
Only compalaint I had was the price. 55 bucks to get me to race and my girlfriend to watch. Iirc at e town its 32 bucks for me and wifey to get in.
Other then that I had fun. Met some cool people and saw some nice looking cars.

There were a few really good moments at Maxus2010, having everything to do with some the people, and a few of the cars.
The day started out wrong when $20 per car turn into $20 per head.
The weren't nearly as many cars and people as were hyped.
The Hill's Garage dyno was lame. They scratched up this one kid's beautiful 2-tone 5th gen, were questioning the accuracy of their own equipment, and kept lowing the price because no one was lining up.
The food... that was food?
The distinction between race and show was very blurry. And the judging seemed kind of loose, even though I have to say that meeting ChinoX was a highlight for me at Maxus. He's a great guy. Ditto on that for Brian Catts. Brian and I talked for quite a bit, which was nice.
Most of the show cars were not show cars. Not by any stretch of the imagination. Some were downright embarrassing. It didn't make any sense. In fact, I hate to say this, but opinions are free... the majority of the cars at Maxus were junk. You can put as many race-me decals as you want on a beat up old Nissan, but... meh, you get my point.
As to the racing... there was an Altima and a Subaru who were racing each other all day long. They must have shot off 20 runs. WTF? There were 2 trucks (yes, trucks) who were doing the same, although they were damn impressive vehicles. And there were two drag cars that were interesting to watch, except when they parked their cars amidst all the Maximas and revved and revved and revved all day long until your ears bled. Not fun. I was kind of hoping their dragsters would just seize up and shut up.
I can't believe I drove 6 hours for this. Time, money, LOTS of money. This was worthy of maybe a 2 hour road trip and no hotel.
Don't get me wrong, there were a few positive moments. But overall, I feel really sad about this thing.

Just read some comments:
The food isn't the maxus comittees fault. Track food in most places suck and is overpriced. If you've never been to a track and didn't know this then take it as a learning experience and stop blaming others.
If we allowed all other nissans and infinitis then why call it Maxus? Just go to nissan/infiniti day at your local track.
E-town is far from nyc aswell. Depending how you drive there you have to go through some back roads too. Its a track! Cars are loud so it has to be a bit far from houses and such.
I can't comment on the criticism from the car show but I think most of these complaints are fom inexperience and some high expectations.

Good job. Stay away from event planning as your career.

on a side note sorry i didn't get to meet you...next time i guess.
wow guys sorry to hear all this, especially to those of you that were attending for the first time. I could not make it this year but last year I had alot of fun. Ive never organized an event so I wont be critical but it sounds like with this many complaints things could have been done differently. It does suck to drive that far and spend all that money on gas, etc. for such a let down. Even last year I felt like I spent a little much but I wanted the experience. Maybe in the future the key should be to lock in participants for the track by paying ahead of time. I really think that would change the outcome.. that way the organizers know what to expect and those who attend kinda get an idea of the participation they are going to see.
I will say I wish for everyone's sake the website had been up/operational earlier. I think it scares people when they are considering taking time off work and spending so much money to come to not see in writing well ahead of time what exactly is going on.
The classes of competition need to be revised.. plain and simple from what Im hearing. With so much knowledge on this site about these cars its surprising that the organization of classes was so "off" it seemed.
I hope people can enjoy whatever goes on today. I certainly dont want this to have such an impact that no one ever wants to be involved in such meets again because when done right they really can be fun.

i was there exactly at 7:05PM. i wasn't an organizer but i felt that i owed it to the forum to be there and support the organizers. did anyone else step up and say let me help out? i don't think anyone else was trying to play host except myself. i jumped in my car every time a group rolled in and missed us to get you guys back. the communication on where EXACTLY to park was off and i noticed that so i was there to get you guys around. i also stayed the entire night giving everyone updates on corey's status and etc. apologies for not seeing a maxima to round you guys up but i had a problem with my car so i had to take another one.
i can't speak for the car show since i had 0 involvement on that. but why didn't you say anything when this occurred? "chino please get off my car". other than that i don't know what happened there.
did anyone raised their hand and voluntered to be a judge? anyone?
did anyone ask corey "hey do you guys need help?"...ANYONE?

I missed Saturdays event. I messed up my back the other day and was really disappointed that I missed it. I can't say too much obviously. But it's too bad that it seemed to be a stinker. I kept in contact with a friend there, he seemed to have a decent time but did admit he felt it was overhyped.
This was my first time ever at a track. I had a lot of fun. I just thought the food was a downside to the place, but I knew the organizers had nothing to do with that. Actually, I thought all of the problems stemmed from the people at the track. A few of the employees in the concession stand were downright rude. One of the girls there threw my change into my hand and another seemed like she had an attitude when they had the two-fers. I kid you not, the older lady said in my face, with a b*tchface mind you, "oh they come now when it's a two-for-one", as if we're cheap bastards or something. If they didn't like that, why would they have two-fers in the first place? It's simple economics...cheaper food means more people will buy. I'm stupid for giving them any of my business even though I was hungry.
during the early part of the day you were able to test and tune all you want. you could've ran a moped down the track. i think many others got a lot of runs in. as for the dragsters, pick up trucks, mustang, i think the track (owners) let them in.
on a side note sorry i didn't get to meet you...next time i guess.

Props where they're due... because that Mustang was a little bit of awesome to watch. 10.90, I think, if I remember that right. For that matter, the Battle of the Trucks was kind of fun to watch, because those big-blocks tore up the track. The Subaru Lagacy, however... meh. Big yawn.
You guys have fun at the picnic. I've got a long drive home. Take care.

Funny that I missed you there, Dan. I talked with Chino a number of times.

The subbie owner is a former max owner.
the mustang was not a former max owner (that i am aware of).
have a safe trip home.
Buyers beware, local pick up recommended. Slow to ship out items already paid for.

thats the drag strip but someone told me they dont rent out the entire track to any one event...i could check on that tomorrow tho...its a bit early but at least wed know enough ahead of time
Maxus was cool, I thought the nyc crew would bring the fire since they were the closest. It was nice to put face with the screen names and meet everyone. As for the food I didn't have any since I go to the track all the time and knew the food would suck and be overpriced so I stopped at wawa and got some subs and soda.
I wouldn't seperate the track from the car show you cause alot of people would not show, plus host the two events at the sometime bring people together that would normally never meet. They should have invited 350z's and G's to off set the cost and allow them show their cars and run but no prizes since this is Maxus.
And on a personal note I would have liked to see Aaron and Jime's car in person although they had their reasons but I did expect to see either a dealership sponsered Skyline or 2011 Maxima.

Another point I forgot to make was that I thought it was disrespectful of the track owners to let their friends race. Nice, fast cars/trucks, but if someone pays 5gs to rent out the track for their members only, it should only be for those members. I don't know if that's some sort of breach of contract or something, but I'd try to get some money back.
