my 96 se with new lights
have the same setup as you! looks goood haha there's something in the back of the headlights you can adjust the height and output of the lights works alot better than when you first get them!
i was wondering if anyone knew how to change the hibeams to stay on with your headlights and then swap out to yellow bulbs and turn the output for the highbeams down.

My R34s keep the low-beams on when the high beams turn on (you need a relay harness for it, it's a little complicated because the maxima is designed for a dual-filament bulb, not separates)
I wanted yellow lights too, so I used JBweld to put in Lexus glass capsules. You could just use yellow-tinted bulbs, but the capsules give you more color.

Really? Mine have an awesome beam pattern... they light up the entire road!
The stock beam pattern is just as bad, if not worse, than the OEM 9004 housings. Which, as you all know, suck.

While the beam pattern is far from great I would not say its terrible. You can still see where your going unlike my old SHO's. No matter what you did to those (silverstars, PIAA,or HID) you could not see anything. The aftermarket autozone fogs I put on had more light output than the headlights did! The good thing about the R34's is they are perfect for a retrofit and thats why I got them.
