Chain rule

How do I get Maxima to apply the chain rule on implicit functions? Here is an example:

(%i1) diff(f(exp(x)),x,1);
d x
(%o1) -- (f(%e ))
dx

You're right Wiz ... it is 4.

I apparently miss-read the " -- " in the initial equation.

If that equation would have read " - " and not " -- ", the answer would be 3.

Good catch.
