Tokico Blues w/Stock Springs--Much Better.
Tokico Blues w/Stock Springs--Much Better.
Couldn't take the float and bounce on my 2k3 SE anymore. So with 1000 miles on it, I purchased and installed a set of Tokico Blues. Ride is still great but no more bounce and float.
For those that do not race but just drive sprited and don't want to lower the car and/or put in aftermarket spings but do want to get rid of the float and rebound bounce in the stock SE suspension, I would recommend this without hesitation.
Install was pretty easy. Worst part was compressing the front spring enough to get the top hat and nut back on; what a pain. Sure glad I had an impact wrench for the procedure. Not absolutely necessary but it will make the install easier and quicker(i.e., turing down the spring compressors and getting that piston nut back on).

Re: Re: Tokico Blues w/Stock Springs--Much Better.
I don't know, but I had Tokicos blues on my 95 Maxima and hated them. After some miles the bounce will come back and I even thought that it was even worse than with stock shocks, which are made by Tokico as well.
I have stock shocks with H&Rs on my 2002 Max and I love it.

don't know where you learned that from, but sooner or later your stock shocks will not handle the compression on the H & R springs and you car will bounce like a ball. they might not die, but you will find out soon...the stock shocks are not the same as the aftermarket tokicos. maybe for the 4th gens, but not the 5th gens..i suggest you do some more research...

your stock shocks are not tokicos...thanks tho. i'm still looking for these rims. nismo might sell his..
Stock shocks are made by Tokicos, at least they were on my 95 Maxima SE. It is written right on the shock.
And as for bounce, I was scared to drive my car with Tokicos.
Me and Shing a long time member here had a lot of discussions about Tokicos and how they suck.
If you like them, that's great. I am gona pass. Konis shocks that is another story, but I am very happy with the car right now. H&Rs on stocks SE shocks rule.

According to the Nissan parts sheet I have for Nissan struts and shocks, there are 2 vendors for the 5th gen max...both tokico and something like universa. Specifically, the stock struts I took off my 2k3 SE were not Tokicos...they were the other vendor with the Universa and Nissan stamped on it.
The 5th Gen max aftermarket Tokicos are different part numbers than the 4th Gen aftermarket Tokicos and valved differently. Also, the aftermarket Tokico is a better shock/strut than the stock OEM Nissan Tokico....at least that is what a Tokico representative told me.

I will check what is written on them, I just thought it will be the same brand as the ones I had on my 1995 Maxima.
I speak from experience I had with Tokicos. I hated Tokicos on my 1995 Maxima. The car was all over the place with them so I am not planning to spend money on the same shocks that I didn't like before.
Also, after some miles on the car, Tokicos become worse and worse.
As for now with H&Rs and stock shocks, I love the way the car looks and rides.
I don't think Tokicos are worth the investment.

My stock 2K1 SE shocks were black Tokico units, obviously not aftermarket ones though.

I think you are confusing yourself, you said that your stock OEM shocks was made by Tokicos and now you are saying >>>>>>>>>>
"I don't think Tokicos are worth the investment"
I had Eibachs and Stock shocks once and also lot of people here did it and they can tell you how the car will bounce, but on a straight it will sit a little nicer, but as far as using H & R springs, H & R springs are stiffer than Eibachs so figure what's gonna happen to your OEM shocks soon.....but if you are happy with it then good luck, i only can advise you as an org member..
if you put an aftermarket springs and leave the stock shocks on...they won't hold, the ride will and performence after a few thousands miles on the stock shocks with the aftermarket springs will get worse and worse. you have to put aftermarket shocks eventually after you put aftermarket springs on(H&R , Eibach, etc)
As a fyi on replacing the stock OEM struts in my 2k3 SE with Tokico Blues using my stock springs....There is a *big* difference in ride quality and handling(no more multiple bounce and float over every dip and bump with also somewhat better turn-in) with very little sacrifice in ride comfort. One thing to remember is that Nissan went to a softer spring and strut on the 2k2/2k3. The 2k/2k1 was a signficantly stiffer spring and strut than used on the 2k2/2k3 SE model. Perhaps that is why the difference on my 2k3 SE is so significant.
