found out that i have no limiter, but i thought GXE's have em

i was just driving towards the local race track around here and theres this LONG road thats kinda empty and just goes straight for miles....well anywayz, i saw this train that was going the same direction as i was going and realized that the tracks later cut across the road i was on so i decided to race the train....i just keep going and hit 115 expecting the car to shut off, then it just kept climbing to about 120, right then and there i got a lil scared of going more because 1)i have no aftermarket suspension to actually hold me down to the ground 2)i didn't have a police radar detector...i thought GXE's have speed limiters thought, because my car is a GXE, or atleast thats what the paper the dealer dude gave me said...could i have like a GLE or sumthin? or are there GXE's that don't have limiters...also, whats the best radar detector to get and at what price?

If you have the C&C package (Motorized seat, intermitten (sp?) wipers, etc...), then you do not have a limited. Get a valetine 1...around $600+ but WELL worth it.

my 95 gxe

i dont think my 95 gxe has a limiter but then again i only have gotten it up to 125mph on the freeway. I am kinda scared to go any faster, especially since i already have a speeding ticket for going 90 in a 55 zone and im only 16! i got that ticket like a month and a half ago. the officer took my license and said i could drive with the ticket until the court date but they havent sent me anything notifying me of the court date and the ticket says that they'll contact me. You guys think they'll take my license? that is my 1st ticket and a week after i got the ticket i went to a defensive driving school. Hopefully the judge will look at this and give me a second chance 'cause i cant afford to loose my driver's license.

So ... you raced against the train and tried to cut across in front of it?

And I had a GXE with the S&C package and had no limiter.

Same here. Does it have to do with the year/month of production? Maybe 95/96 made during certani months with the S&C package have the limiter, and the others don't? There has to be way to figure this out...VIN#?

Re: found out that i have no limiter, but i thought GXE's have em

Since you took it to 120 then immediatley backed off, you could still have a limiter. The ECU may not have had a chance to kick in. Usually kicks in around 117-120 mph.

Only one way to find out, though

I have 99 GXE and I was driving 125 with not cut off. Is it mean there is no limiter or there is limiter at 145 like in SE ?

KatMai

If you were cruising at an indicated 125 you have no limiter.

No 4th gen SEs have limiters.

Why do we have to rehash all these points every month?

Speed Limiter Removal

The ECU monitors the transmission mounted speed sensor to determine vehicle speed. When the vehicle speed limit is reached, the ECU cuts the fuel flow to the engine to slow the car.

The signal path for the vehicle speed sensor is as follows:

Sensor to Speedometer
Speedometer to ECU & Cruise Control

If the signal is interrupted at the actual connection to the ECU, speedometer, odometer and cruise control functions are preserved. The ECU does not receive a vehicle speed signal, therefore it will not limit the vehicle speed.

This modification is easy. But beware, it does include mutilation of the factory ECU wiring harness...not for the squeamish.

1.Disconnect negative battery terminal.
2.remove ECU cover from passenger side footwall.
3.Loosen bolt in center of main ECU connector.
4.Unplug main ECU connector.
5.Remove snap-on plastic cover from ECU connector.
6.Locate PINK wire with BLUE stripe. (this wire is located on the right half of the connector when plugged in)
7.Cut PINK/BLUE wire.
8.Reassemble ECU connection.
9.Reconnect negative battery terminal.
10.Drive 140mph.

This modification will cause the "check engine" light to illuminate. If you check the codes, you will get 0104 (Vehicle speed sensor fault) and 0504 (A/T control unit fault). So far there have been no drivability problems
associated with this mod.

i did take it to 120, but then then it switched gears...like i was almost redlining at like 119 and then i hit like 120 or 121 and the RPMS went back to 4000 and kept going on...i do have the S&C package

and i wasn't street racing!! , i was testing and tuning on the highway, and for the guy who thought i was cutting in front of a train, that wasn't what i said, read my original post carefully

Your post didn't say whether you did or not. But from what was posted, it seemed like that was what you were trying to do. Which is why I had the smiley.

When I bought the Valentine 1 from their website it was $400. That was about 6 months ago, maybe the price went up It is well worth it tho.

heres the story....the tracks run right next to the road i was one, the road i was on and the tracks both go the same direction, its like this for about 5 miles or so, maybe more...so i was just puching it and leaving the train beacuse later on down the road the same tracks the train is on curve and cut across the road...so the whole reason y i was going fast was to get to the rail road crossin (about 5 miles away from where i found out i dont have a speed militer) before the train did

Where are you? Out in New Mexico or something?? I'd loooooove to drive on roads like that, the ones you see in movies and commercials. NOTHING like that here in the NorthEast.

Cool. I'm going to visit a friend in Miami in a couple of weeks. Hopefully I'll be able to rent a 5 speed (Maxima even?) somewhere to discover these roads
