Adding a delay circuit to reverse light

I read some post that talked about adding fading/delay circuits for head lights but I think the attachments are no longer permitted, so therefore no longer there.

What I want to do is add a delay circuit to my reverse lights so when I shift my auto tranny from park to drive and vice versa, my reverse lights won't go on---for that split second. Can someone show me a link to a schematic or tell me how to make this circuit? Thanks in advance.

Just use a capacitor.

Simple.

capacitor? wouldn't it make it worse by lengthening the amount of time the bulb is lit?

Thats what I was thinking too. Initially, there may be the delay I want when the cap charges up but what about the discharge?

are you doing this because you're embarrassed you have an auto and want it to look like you drive a 5sp?

I know how to do this. It will cost you about $10 in parts and you will have to do some soldering. You can get most the parts at radio shack, but if you have an independent electronics store around that would be better. I had to use a delay circuit for my remote starter on my motorcycle and this would be exactly what you are looking for. PM/email me for instructions.

Are you serious Jamsan, magicmax you dont want you reverse lights to come on for a sec. when you change gears??? who cares if you have an automagic, that seems like a waste of money and time.

Ok, thats hitting below the belt.

The reason for this is to add longevity to my reverse light bulbs since I added in higher intensity bulbs.

if you are worried about that why even get the bulbs? whats the use of even getting high intense bulbs back there in the reverse lights?

I had a feeling this idea would sound dumb to some of you but it's just something I want to do. I got my answer and will build it. Thanks for all that helped.

If you don't have reverse lights because you did a tranny conversion, see my post in this forum about how to make your reverse lights work again.
