clutch makin noise when i push it down... need advice!

Hi guys

I posted a while ago about my car leakin tranny oil... the guy said it was coming from the drive axel seal, but then the car all of a sudden stopped leaking. I checked the tranny oil level and it is right at the bolt, which means it's proper level. Now, i do have that whining sound in first and second gear. At first i thought it bad bearings, but then again, if it was that i wouldda probably experienced this waaaay before 142k miles. I did do the drive shaft test... it did not move at all (just curious, should test it w/ the car lifted?).

My uncle said it is probably my syncros.. or whatever they are, i'm not sure. He has had some experience w/ this problem before but on another car. Anyways, other than that, i have noticed recently that when i press down on the clutch, i hear this sound... it only makes the sound when it is almost as far as it can reach, like kinda a grinding or something. The temprature has been pretty cold now (california) and i got the car in spring so i don't know if this is normal or not. I didn't have this sound before. It's sometimes there, and sometimes it is not. Thanks

Be more specific on the noise...Wheres it coming from, clutch pedal, clutch iteself. How long does the noise happen for, just a split second ? Is it loud ?

One thing you can do, is when it makes that noise, get underneath the dash and push the pedal down with your hand and listen...look up and see if something rubbing or somthing may just need grease...

If it's a squeak type noise it's probably the throwout bearing. Mine began to squeak around 40k.

it's not a squeak sound... its really weird, i could say it sounds like grinding but it isn't really that either. it happens when the clutch is past 3/4 the way in...

it comes right in front of the driver cabin.

search for clutch and squeak, you'll find all the culprits. 95% chance you just need some lube in the right place. Unfortunately, not the easiest places to get to.

If you had problems with your synchros, you'd know it. You'd be grinding into certain gears often even with the clutch fully engaged.
