A Stupid, but Legitimate Question.....

I am trying to update my profile and I have a question;

I have a 1986 Nissan Maxima, 5 speed manual transmission, and a V6 2960cc SOHC MFI VG30E engine.

So, is it a GXE, SE, GLE or what?!

The one peice of information that gives it away is the 5-speed. The manual trans was only available in the SE.

One of these days, I'd like to get my hands on a good 5-speed to drop in my wagon, and then black out all the trim, and basically build my own SE wagon...the only one...

This is how you can tell which car you have. Second Generation has 2 body styles, sedan/wagon, and only 2 trims for a given year.

1985-1986 GL models are all autos, they have the wagon, chrome trim, usually had power seats with optional leather, but not all, and an optional digital dash and trip computer Optional sunroof.

1985 SE models, have black trim, rear trunk lip spoiler, I believed it can with only a 5-speed tranny sport cloth seats adjustable suspension, sliding sunroof.

1986 SE models, have black trim, rear trunk spoiler, optional front air dam spoiler, optional fog lights, only a 5-speed tranny adjustable suspension, sliding sunroof.

1987-1988 GXE same as 85-86 GL, just new trim name, same deal.

1987-1988 Same as 1986 SE, including a slide/tilt moonroof.

Pretty good way to tell the different, is if its an 85-86 with chrome trim, its a GL, if its an 87-88 with chrome trim, it a GXE, if it an 85-88 with black trim, it's an SE.

Besides when you did have your picture, you have an SE. I too have an 86 SE, and guess what, I live 45 minutes from you (Lynnwood)!

BTW,

You have EFI, not MFI. Just look under the passenger seat, the ECU for the EFI is there.

OK so let me get this straight: My 88 Maxima has a 5-speed manual transmission with the rear trunk spoiler, adjustable suspension, and [what used to be] black trim. Then that makes it a Maxima SE right?

Right on. Good job! I'd give you a gold star, but I ran out. Sorry.
