1999 Gauge cluster bulb #..need confirmation

Hey guys,

I know the 99 gauge cluster bulbs are not 194s. I seem to remember someone saying they were 74s.

Can anyone confirm this?

Also, where can I find some blue ones?? I've searched through Google.com with "74 bulbs" and got next to nothing.

96 is #194

99 is not #194 ... not sure what they are since I never had a 99.

i wish i could tell you, but even after telling my year, make and model, trim level, and exactly what bulb i wanted, the parts manager at my local nissan dealership still couldn't figure out what bulb i needed. His helpful advice was to "rip apart the gauge cluster, and pull out the bulb that was burnt out, put the cluster back together, bring the bulb in so he could match it up, then rip the gauge apart again to get the bulb in there (and pray he gave me the right one)"

Fock em.

I am almost 100% certain that the last time I took apart my 99 cluster, I noticed that the bulbs that illuminate the gauges/needles are the exact same as the bulbs used for the CEL, Battery, Gas light, etc. I just called the local dealer and he insists that, according to the Nissan diagram, there are FIVE different types of bulbs behind a 99 cluster. I don't believe him. I lied and said that I needed a new fuel "empty" bulb, and he said "yep, I have that one in stock," but he couldn't tell me what bulb type/size it was. Right. I've taken apart the cluster numerous times and all of the bulbs are interchangeable. Even if he was talking about one of the earlier 4th gen. clusters, there are only 2 types (I have a 95/96 cluster sitting right here with me): 194 and these little ones, whatever they are.

Anyway... when I have time, I can try switching one of the gauge bulbs in my 99 with the fuel/CEL light from the 95 cluster and see if that works (I'm betting it will). If it does, then at least we'll be headed in the right direction (someone will have to call another dealer and find out what type of bulbs are used in all years for the CEL).

fearthegecko, if this works I can mail you a bulb since I have like 10 in this old cluster. PM me or something.

ok...you can't search b/c the function is down, but the 99's do not use 194 bulbs. they are smaller, and i've tried to do blue bulbs but cannot even find regular clear bulbs. it's a much smaller version of the 194 bulb. some people have painted them blue with a sharpie marker, but i would not waste your time. hope this helps.

Wow, this one got pulled from the depths of obscurity. I had forgotten that I posted this..

Anyway, yep.. 98-99's use some weird size bulb that apparently no aftermarket manufacturer sells. You can only get them at Nissan in clear.

74's will work, but they are smaller and not as bright.

BTW, the blue sharpie idea doesn't work. It eventually burns off and you're back to clear again.

Dealers are there so they can give you their part #. If they just told you info about the part (be it a bulb, screw, etc.) you would go elsewhere I have never figured out why the FSM doesnt cross reference part #s though.

Yeah, I know, but it's annoying that they are so self-serving. Maybe I wouldn't have a problem buying things from them if they didn't charge an arm and a leg for something that is only worth a finger.

To answer your question about the bulb cluster. Bulb code is 24. They are the same as the gas, high beem, etc. The only colors i've other then white is yellow. I've tried looking for them in different colors, but you will have better luck putting a condom on the bulbs.
