hi all,

i'm new to this forum and the maxima..

have a 2000 Cefiro Excimo (Maxima) which i hope to replace its roundish grille to the one on the latest maxima..

like the one here.. http://www.cefiro.com.my

my question is.. can i simply buy an 03 grille and replace it on my 00, or are modifications required..

I doubt this will work. From the look of the Cefiro from your link, it looks as though your grille is integrated to the hood. American Maximas have their grilles integrated with the front bumper cover. Also the general shape and design of that Cefiro's front-end compared with the Maxima is different.

Remember, the exterior of the Cefiro and the Infiniti I30/I35 is designed in Japan. The exterior of the Maxima is done in Southern California. Nissan does not care that exterior parts between the Cefiro/I30/I35 and the Maxima do not match and are not interchangable because they are all designed for different markets to better differentiate each one.

my current cefiro grille is integrated into the hood, like the 03 cefiro..

the grilles are about the same, except the mine are more roundish at the corners, not sharp and snazzy like the new one..

Only reason I dont believe this will work is if you take the 2000 maxima and compare it to a 2003 maxima, the grille size actually got larger. It opening is 1" taller than the 2000. Also the 2003 grille can be removed from the front, the 2000 grille cannot, it is basically integrated into the front bumper, basically molded.

though the maxima grill would probably require a lot of custom work, i think this one should bolt right on to your car:

 

get lenght & height sizes on both grills first

That's the exact one on my 2000, except that the logo says "Cefiro" instead of Infiniti..

hmm.. the 03 grille does indeed look slightly larger than the 00 one..
looks like i have to drop the idea of DIY face-lifting the cefiro..
