Ok, i checked the plugs inbetween the engine and radiator. and i do see 4 plugs. do the fed spec have 2 plugs and 2 plugs only? Does this mean i have less power than a fed spec max? if so that must suck! =)

I think the jist of it is that the OEM Y pipe in the Cali spec '99 maxima has 4 O2 sensors in it, and the ECU watches all of 'em carefully. If you can find a way around that when upgrading, then you'll make a alot of cali spec 99 Maxima people on this board very very happy

1. get a 99 non cali-spec ecu
2. get a non cali spec exhaust manifold
3. bypass the swirl valve
4. install #1 and #2
5. beat he 2 extra O2 sensors on the ground until you feel better
6. enjoy......

You know that the 4th gen FAQs gives you an easier way to check for your cars destination. Just look at the metal Id tag fastened to the passenger sidewall in the engine bay and the 12th letter in the second row numbers tell you that

N=Canada
V=California
U=US or Fed Spec (not California)

it depends. I've heard of dealers in NJ buying a lot of their cars (not just nissans) as cali-spec because jersey and cali have extremely tough emissions laws. Add in the insanely high insurance prices in jersey and you'll come to realize what i did years ago: New Jersey sucks.
