ContiExtreme vs. HTR+

Has anybody run Continental tires on their max? specifically looking at the ContiExtreme Contact in 235/45. Was told they're new but was looking at the reviews on one of the tire sites and it had good reviews (home connection's really and i don't have the patience to find the reviews, but will post link when I find it). They reviewed a lil better than HTR+, which is why i'm asking. Thanks

Good question.

According to Tirerack, the ContiExtremeContact is rated higher than the HTR+. See the rating of ultra-Performance All-Season tires at

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/surveyresults/uhpas.jsp

The ContiExtreme is rated #1 , 4% ahead of the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S in the second palce, and followed closely by the HTR+ in the third place. The relative ratings are:
100% for the Conti,
96% for the Pilot Sport A/S,
94 % for the HTR%.

What's amazing is that the Conti is actually rated higher then the Pilot A/S and yet it's less than half of Michelin's (overpriced ?) cost.

The only issue with the Conti is that its load rating - at least for the 215/50/17 - size is 90W. To get the 91 or better load rating recommended for the Maxima, you have to go with the 235/45/15 size (its rating is 93W).

I have 32,000 miles on my Potenza's. I have planned to buy the HTR+, but now, I would like to go with the Conti's. However, I am not sure about the load rating. I don't want to go with the 235/45/17 size (I have two sets of snow chains that are too small for this tire, and also, I don't care to have a wider tire). However, I am wondering what the risk is, if any, to go with the 215/50/17 Conti and its 90W load rating.

Do you guys have any insights ?

I have been looking at the Sumitomo HTR+ and the Conti in the 215/50/17 size also. I spoke with someone at Tirerack who did not recommend that size due to load rating; however I also spoke to someone at a local tire shop who said there should be no problem with the load rating on that size. I think I'll do some more research to see what's up. Anyhow, I did find a tire in that size with a decent load rating. It's the Yokohama Avid V4 and it has a 93 load rating in the 215/50/17 size. UTQG rating of 360 A-A and a 45M mile warranty, it is $97 at tirerack. The Sumitomo HTR+ is only $77 at tirerack, and either would seem to be a bargain. I'm not concerned about a little extra wheel gap with the slightly smaller size. The diameter of the 215/50/17 is just a smidge less than the stock size.

where continental?

Have any of you found somewhere that stocks continental? I've called several places out here and none stock continental (i think NTB does, but not certain). Wanna get them from a chain just for replacement/accessibility purposes but nobody's carrying them. Lil help would be much appreciated.

Has anybody bought the Conti's yet? I'm buying the next week and curious to see if anybody's picked them up yet. I talked to a guy at tire rack that drove on both tires at a test track and recommends the Conti over the HTR+. I was set on the HTR+ until I started reading Conti reviews again. Anything y'all have would be most appreciated.

New Tires = Skewed Rating

If the Conti's are as new as I think they are....the rating will be skewed based on FEWER reviews with a HIGHER rating.

Not sure, but you may want to check.

I stopped yesterday and got a quote on the Extreme Contacts from Discount Tire. They are beginning to stock them, but did not have them in the size I wanted for the new wheels that are on order. Said they could have them in no more than a week. Shop around for prices, Discount will match anyone's local price, they did on mine.

I had some bad continental touring tires on my gtp a couple years ago.. so bad that the belt slipped in the rear 2 tires--on a front wheel drive car.

I took those tires back and have vowed to never get continentals again..

On a side note, I just bought a set of sumitomo htr+ tires a month ago and absolutely love them. They are quiet, hug the corners like they are made out of glue, and look really nice. They are also very good in rain.

OK so these tires appear to hold some promise. However, I wish they came in teh size I want. 235/50/17. I am on stock 17x7" rims. I know 225/45/17 will fit but I dont want to enhance the 4x4 look. I would like a little wider, but dont want the hassle of constantly checking tire pressure to run a 235/45/17. They do however have a 255/50/17. Although I highly doubt they will be in spec.

I talked to a guy at Tire Rack that drove a BMW w/ the Conti's and HTR+ and said he felt the Conti's performed better. I'm going to get the HTR+ (hopefully i'll have them by the time some of you read this) from NTB. I'll let you know how I like them.

I ordered the contiextreme contact 225/45r17 yesterday and tire rack called me today and said they can't sell me that tire for my car because it doesn't meet the weight ratings. I will probably be getting the pilot sport a/s now because the conti isn't offered in a 225/50...they have a 225/55 but that is way too tall. I want to keep the stock width also. Oh well...but I have heard nothing but good things about continental tires.

Does anybody have any idea how to go about requesting a major tire manufacturer to make a specific size of tire? I would break out the plastic right now if they made 235/50/17. Heck, better performance them Pilot A/S for much less deniro? SIGN ME UP.

I am trying to choose between these two tires too in 235/45 17 size. Continental Extreme tire look like it has better rating compared to HTR+. They cost about $107 at tirerack right now and HTR+ $89.

My friend just installed HTR+ on this TL-S and he says he loves them.

Talk to Luke at Tire Rack. He knows his stuff plus he's a Nissan guy (300Z). He's got a great rep on TwinTurbo.net.

Comparing a 225/50-17 (OEM) to a 225/55-17:

The overall diameter of the 55 is 0.8" larger on a 26"+/- diameter tire. Pls. explain why you think this is "way too tall".

So did anybody installed ContiExtreme or HTR+ tires on the Max and how did they perform?

I am trying to pick either from two of those in 235/45 17 size for my stock 17" rims.

I recently installed 235-45-17 Sumtomo HTR+ tires on my new Evo-S rims, and I find them to have amazingly more traction than the Potenzas on stock 02 SE rims. Not only that, but I swear the car feels more comfortable while driving now. There are certain stop signs that I used to always get tire slippage at, and now I just launch quicker instead of slipping. Great tires at a great price. I also use the HTR+ tires on my 2000 Volvo S70 GLT SE and they work great there as well.

ContiExtremeContact seem to have better rating on Tirerack. HTR+ has pretty good rating as well. How is wear on HTR+ tires?
