Does anyone know what the specs are on this new one? I don't want to lose to a V6 Chevy.

 

i think its got 240 hpr and 280 lb-ft of torque.

not sure if it comes in manual tho

 

Same as the 97-2k3 grand prix.. SAME motor.. 3.8 supercharged v6. These will tear you a new *** down low. Lightly modded they will beat you all the way. A set of rockers does wonders for the top end on these.

Also, remember that this is a BUICK engine, not a chevy engine. Remind everyone, so any impaila owners do not get too cocky about thier cars.

Yeah. The series 2 L67 motor (supercharged 3.8 liter) first appeared on the 96 Buick Riviera. Minor changes were made to the 97 gtp and onward from that.

 

Its more of a question, What do you drive? The S/C auto will take you off the line regarless though. Those cars are eccelent holeshot cars but usually falls flat in 3rd.

 

The car may be quick, but it is still butt ugly.

FWIW: the 3.8 ltr v6 has been in production at GM since the early 60's in one way, shape or form. Good engines and really tough. Used in everything across the GM product line.

yep. the 3.8L is their V6 workhorse. Dependable and with lots of torque. I traded my Impala for the Max. The engine's what made that car. Everything else was poor quality.

I agree although the 3.8 liter from the 60s-70s-80s is very much different than the series 2 3.8 liter of the mid 90's and later.

At some point in the lifecycle, the 3.8 made horsepower figures in the low 100's. Currently a non supercharged 3.8 liter motor puts out 205-210 hp.

 

Buick engine? No such thing, gm specific engines died a long time ago. Only GENERAL MOTORS engines now my friend.

They need the extra horsepower to make up for their lack of looks...

 

I would have a lot more respect for this "new" SS if they had figured out a way to make it RWD like the '96 SS. Or at least changed the looks from all the other Impala "Rental Specials". A lady next door to my work has a loaded Impala LS from a couple years back and it looks exactly the same as the new SS .
Still, the 3800 is a great engine - has made the 10 Best Engines In The World list even. I've had a Bonnie SSE and a LeSabre T-Type both with the 3800 and they are smooth, torquey and bulletproof. I have a friend who got over 300k on his before giving it away - and it STILL runs

 

seriously forget the new Impala......GM are morans getting rid of that car..
the 94-96 impala SS is only real Impala...well that and the ones from the 60s.

wait a min. What year Impala are we talking about? First of all, Impalas never came S/C'd from the factory. Second, the last year Impala SS was made was 1996. It had a 260-hp 5.7L V8 motor. You may stand a chance only if you are heavily modded 6spd, otherwise its a murdah. If you are coming against a latest bodystyle Impala, even a 3.0 auto Max would take that: 200 hp 3.8 V6.
