car does minor jerk like its choking....

i get no codes or anything but i'm not happy with the way my car drives. Not as smooth as it used to be. Cant be my driving which is easily debatable between some of u . What i see happening is when i start off in a gear and floor it, i get this burst then a quick choke and then a continued burst...like a chatter but feels like a choke. If i put more gas its very unnoticeable but i feel there's a definite difference. Also i feel slower, not sure if its cause 17's put back on or what. Both problems may be associated with each other.

I was wondering about the following things?

spark plugs?
clean throttle body?
enough air going into crank and other two connects from midpipe?

no knock sensor code or anything...what do u guys think is the problem?

My guess would be the KS doing what it's supposed to, retarding timing a bit. It could be slightly over active, but still within operating range, hance no code for it.

Try switching your brand of gas and adding octane boost to further prevent any detonation that the KS might be picking up.

njmaxseltd: I was trying to check for codes on my friends 99 Maxima non SEL however there is no screw on the ecu to turn. How else can I check for codes?

IIRC those pretty much have a 5th gen. ECU, which requires an OBD scanner.

Could possibly be slow reacting 02 sensors. They won't throw a code either. I had some pretty bumpy part-throttle hesitation from 3000-4000rpms. I decided it was time to change out my 7 year-old 97K front O2 sensors and sure enough the hesitation disappeared and mpgs went up a couple. If you're experiencing problems above 4000rpms, then it's not your 02 sensors.

thanks for the feedback guys. My hesitation comes very early. I get the hesitation in second gear at like 3-4 rpm...its like it comes in like .4 seconds after flooring it in the gear. I always use 93 octane and i normally go for the more expensive stations like Mobil, Gulf, Exxon, etc. I dont know if my knock was ever changed but one of my 02's were...

I vote O2 sensors. Also check you knock sensor and knock sensor harness with a voltmeter. No point in changing things that are running perfectly fine.

there is a screw in there...its a very small phillips head screw
i have a 99 and its not a flathead like the rest of the years

mecca, seems like your car is misfiring...you might want to check your spark plugs, and ignition coils.

even if the CEL is not on, check for codes.

when my car was misfiring, it told me which cylinder was bad, so i replaced the coil and all is well now.

i get sort of a slight hesitation from medium throttle when i'm quickly upshifting from 3th to 4th. sometimes i get this sort of split second bog that feels like the clutch is touchy, but in reality the shift was performed smoothly. perhaps i was shifting too fast? after this hiccup the motor is running like usual.

unfortunately...they're very expensive from the dealer

i actually got a set of 6 from a blown vq for very cheap

instead of getting them new, i'd get them used if they are in working order.

Nope, there is nothing there just like the 5th gens. There is a hole but no SCREW. Only 88-99 1/2 have the screw 99 1/2 + dont. So u have to use the OBDII scanner.
