JWT/ECU a fake? Think mine is

Well I have been seeing that the tach reads 5400 when the LED indicates the harlan is going off. So I did this...

When I set the harlan to 1k ... the light lit up at 1100

2k was alittle more
and so on
5k was at 5400
and my tach reads 7400 when the fuel cutoff takes effect.

So I set the harlan to 7k and it never opened up at all. I think I am going to set it to like 6900 just to see what that does. Anybody with a VI and JWT/ECU wanna try theirs like this? I dont know what to think right now.

Just set it for 6800 and it went off(LED lit up) and my tach read like 7200ish
Now I will try the 6900 setting.

The 6900 setting didnt go off. So it looks like my JWT/ECU is set at 6800 rev-limiter.

My rev-limiter is 6800 b/c it wont open at 6900 when i set the harlan to that setting. My tach is 400 off. I can hit 7400 when the fuel cutoff takes effect.

But if the tach if off that will cause the engine not to read what it is reving up to?

If you are trying to guess that it's a fake, don't! Nobody else [except JWT] has been able to touch the rpm limiter. Whether it is truly 7k rpm is another question. In any case, tach is definitely off... especially in 1st gear.

I would seriously blame the harlen before the ECU.

still working on getting my ecu, had a terrible time got wrong ecu and had to send it back and fight for my money, but i would hate to think im going through all this to end up with some fake ecu .. im just going to demand 7200 rev limit, and then take it to the track and expect a .1 or .2 to come off my 1/4 mile times.

if it does not, then i will cry out FAKE as well ... but for now im keeping the faith .. i sure hope your ecu is not a fake because that would suck ! good luck !

Well I think the harlan might have a slight issue of this, but I was thinking about it and if my tach hits 7400 when it shuts down and then in the harlan is set at 5k and it shows 5400, that shows that its off by 400 rpm. The harlan wont work on 6900 or 7000 though. So I dont think its really the ecu if my tach is off by 400rpms. But the idle seems to be right, it slowly gets off track little by little all the way up to 7400.

Set at 5k ----> shows 5400
Set at 7k redline ----> shows 7400

I've noted that dyno, on back to back runs, my stock ECUs rev limiter could vary between 6400-6500rpms.

ShogunMax-

There's nothing wrong with your ECU. The Harlan is just a little slow to react (100-200rpms slow). My rev-limiter kicks on at an indicated 7200rpms in 1st gear and 7100rpms in 2nd. I've never revved it to fuel cut in 3rd.

Thats what kind of got me is that I dont really notice this low end loss that is suppose to be here with the MEVI. But tach off by 400 is wild.

The loss really isn't in the lowend, it's from 3000-5000rpms which is more the midrange. The loss itself isn't terribly noticeable, but test it on the dyno and you'll see the lack of power. If you already had the ECU, then there isn't loss because the ECU restores all the midrange punch to where it was with the stock manifold.

Yeh it was already in. And that is what I meant to say. (midrange)

So what do you guys think. When the fuel cutoff is like 6800 or 6900ish and it revs all the way, then the coil doesnt send a signal out?

On my ecu, in first gear, my fuel cut off is at 7k rpm. The later gears, the tach is off by 200 to 300 rpm.

My limiter is 7200 and on my recent dyno plot my car revved out to exactly 7200 when it hit the rev limiter, RPM signal taken off coil.

But what does your tach say when it hits the rev limiter?
And can you set the harlan to 7k and it go off?

On my stock ECU, on the dyno, I rev my tach to 6600RPM but the dyno drops flat at 6400RPM... I guess that means my tach is off by 200RPM.

Mine's really close to dead on. Its between 7200 and 7300 when I hit the rev limiter on my tach.

What could cause the tach to be off by 400 rpms.
