Whirling noise while accelerating?

When I accelerate I have a whirling or turbine sounding noise coming from the center of the dash or under the hood? What could this be? The noise goes in the same pitch as the engine when it shifts.

Do you have a high powered system, AC or other electrical things on while accelerating? I have the same sound and I know it is the alternator. Too much for it to handle. I am going to get it rewounded soon.

Yeah I know about the recall

Yep I know about the recall but a new alternator will not help me. My Alt is not failing, it's just not strong enough to handle the drain from all the electronics I have. My boy has a shop that is going to rewound the alt for me. Not sure one the price yet.

yea, but I was meaning to direct this toward woodymax98 since if he did have defective diodes in his alternator, there would be a whine consistant to rpm and I was just wondering if that is what he has since he has a 98.

Did you recently change your belts? I just put new belts on my '96 and now I get that whining noise also. I wondered if it might be too sideload on the bearings of the alt or AC from the belts being too tight.
