breather filters.....

I think I might have a good question..well I just installed my JWT intake last week and love it...well I was showing one of my friends yesterday and asked why is there no hose connecting to one of the open tubes leading into the engine...well I told him once I took off the stock airbox and put the JWT in there was no other end to connect the tube to...he told me that I need something to cover it cause dirts gonna be sucking into the engine...is this true? can I use one of those little breather filters in it?

I had the same question about that hose before...couldn't find anything to connect it to. My mechanic told me that it's a air release hose for the transmission and should be kept unplug. FYI: My mechanic works for a Toyota/Lexus dealer so I am not sure if his answer is correct?

You should put a breather on their because there are very lil deposits of oil that come out from there. Just get one of those $5 crank case breathers.

Those breathers need tap into the main intake from the MAF for a reason. If you just put some stupid filter on it your engine will suck through unmetered air and perform more inconsistantly.

Several people here have one and not had any problems. Why? I don't know because I'm not one of them.

the $5 ones from pep boys won't fit on the crankcase, the joint is too small to fit over the piping...Kev got a K&N one that worked perfect, you may want to PM him and ask what he got

Air Breather Filter

I purchased an air breather filter when I first purchased my car. After 1 day of driving my SES Light came on. The reason I received the SES was because the air going into the crank case was not metered air (meaning air that has passed through the MAF Sensor.) Our engines and sensors are very sensitive to mods such as an air breather and in my case and others the car rejects them. *PLEASE NOTE not all 2002-2003 Maximas are affected right away or even months down the road...it is not recommended and is not known to improve performance. My opinion is from my personal experience with this particular mod.

I had a K&N Breather Filter on mine and no problems. I was told that all that port does is help increase exhaust flow. I've since put the stock airbox in and reconnected the stock hose. No problems still. Chris

The only thing I can think of that makes any sense to me as to why some people have problems and others don't is the level of mods you have done. Maybe with a freer flowing setup it's more prone to running lean. Elevation where you live may also play a part.

I was getting random misfires because I was running lean, even at idle. As soon as I took it off it went away. As adding one of these does nothing for performance I'm not worried about not being able to use one.

If you want to try and keep your TB & intake manifold cleaner try an inline filter. It maybe prone to clogging over time but they're easy to install and cheap.

There are also more elaborate filters like these:
