How to hardwire Valentine radar detector? Any ideas?

Hi -

I did and search and have found some people that say they ran the normal phone wire under the dash and up the front windshield pillar. Others have tried to wire it to the sunroof. Is there an easy way to do this, especially one that explains how to hide the wire under the dash or interior panels?

Can I remove the pillar panel and run the wire under it?

Sorry - but I am a car electronics n00b, and could use some help!

Thanks,
RDaneel

I ran mine down to the cig lighter. I tried the sunroof first but because of the kind of switch it has it doesn't work for adding electronics. You can stuff the wire between the glass and the headliner across the top and then between the glass and a pillar down the side. Then you can tuck it between the body and the dash and the wire is completely invisible from any angle. If I did it again I would only run it to the fuse box as that would be much easier than running it to the cig lighter.

WaarrEagle - do you know where I can find out how to wire it to the fuse box? Can I just pick an empty lead and clip on the 12 volt connector that came with the V1? I might give that a try - sounds like the most elegant solution!

Thanks again for your help!

Anyone know which wire I can tap into in the fuse box?

Thanks!

Tap the wire to the reading lights. It's easy to tap it, but a bit of a pain to run the wire inbetween the headliner and the roof of the car. Use one of the 3 screws holding the mirror to put ground, and it works fine. Just remember to turn off the radar itself when the car is off because those reading lights still get power with the car off.

Maximum - thanks for the suggestion - but I'm too afraid to do it that way - I know I'll forget to turn the detector off, and kill the battery. I'd really like to attach it to a switched source. I have the cable run to the fusebox, I just don't know which wire to tap. I guess I'll look for the 12V cig lighter wire and tap into it...

Thanks for all your help! I found the wire was long enough to attach right to the area behind the 12V jack - and everything works!

This forum rocks!
