Lost all keys except one for a 2K SE, what to do?

Hey guys,

Am in a bit of a hole here. I am down to only 1 key for my Max, due to others negilgence......

I say a site selling Chip key blanks, but what about the chip programming part?
Anyone had to do this too? Is it dealer only or can I not get R@*3d and do it elsewhere?

Thanks all...

I believe dealership is the only place to program keys. It will cost you.

Yup, you'll need to make a trip to the $tealership. You'll need to have them reprogram the computer with the CONSULT programmer (only dealers have this for the most part) to no longer acknowledge the old keys, and then get another blank ($30 I think?) and have them program that one in. The big money is in the remote FOB thingy. That's over $100 I think. I said to hell with that and just got a spare key and passed on the remote FOB. Only person that drives my car is me and I justed wanted a spare one - didn't need another remote also.

You can program key fobs yourself easily and buy them off of ebay. I got 2 for $15.
Dealer is the one who has to program the keys.
Dealer quoted me $100 per key. I am surviving on one with multiple fobs.

My girlfriend just got her spare and valet keys reprogrammed today b/c her keys were stolen out of state and they had to cut her a new key, thus making the old keys invalid. I believe she was charged $60 to have the new key cut and then to reprogram the other 2 keys she had to pay $40 total. I also got a new remote off ebay for $15 (after being quoted $165 at the dealer), but haven't tried to program it.

Delaer BS!!! It not harder for them to program one or 3 so!! Take about 15min in all for my 3 key when I bought the car!!(the other guys had "lost" one and I ask for them to replace the missing one and reprogram them!!)

Thanks all,

Looks like I will be taking a trip down to the $tealership sometime after Thanksgiving. I already bid on a couple of FOB's on Ebay. Will se how that works out.

Do NOT go to the dealer. Many locksmiths have the transponder key programming equipment, and they charge a fraction of what the dealer charges. I got three new keys from a nearby locksmith for my 2001 Pathfinder for a total cost (including programming) of just over $100.

[edit] BTW - a locksmith will only hit you for the programming once, not per-key, like the dealers do.

Check the "PARTS LIST" sticky on where to get the keys for $19/each PLUS a list of local locksmiths that can reprogram them for you cheaper.
