I have heard of them, but have never seen one w/ those options. Sounds like you have a pretty rare max there. Not too sure I would liek the whole sonar suspension tho. I've heard the struts are pretty pricey to replace the struts. But who knows, I could be wrong.

yeah I heard and have seen a few that way. Basically its a fully loaded GXE.

I had the HUD on a loaded 93 Altima and my wife loved it. I thought it was pretty cool too.

What I like is the new HUDs on some cars. My uncle just got a 2004 C5 convertable and it has the HUD on it. The cool thing about it is that it has the other gauges on it as well and not just the speed.

what you have is the brougham edition 3rd gen. the digital dash w/hud, sonar suspension, digital climate control are much more common features found in canadian spec maximas. the digi dash, hud, sonar suspension, pearl white paint, were options available with the brougham. it came standard with sunroof and bose soundsystem along with all other gxe options. like awsm66 said it's basically a fully loaded gxe.
i see digital dash maximas everywhere....it almost seems like 50% of the 3rd gens i see are digi dash and there's a lot of 3rd gen maximas in toronto both on the road and at the wreckers.

also,
if you have the car when the sonar suspension goes, don't replace the struts with sonar suspension parts. those things are around 500cdn each. just replace the struts with normal oem replacement ones(ie; kyb, tokico, koni or just remanufactured no name ones)

enjoy the ride...

hmm...i thought it did.
but i guess not.
that's okay though because the bose audio system is garbage anyways.

unfortunately the canadian maximas(of any generation) didn't come with the block heaters. you'll have to go pick one up at canadian tire.

ummm...well...you may be lucky...or not...

Once the electronics start going bad...its gonna be a PITA...the elctronic suspension is pretty expensive to replace...but its super when it works right...your steering has a steering angle sensor...which tells the struts how much to stiffen up or not depending on how fast the car is and how much its turning..

the digital climate control has a chronic problem of losing the display. same is the case with the digital dash...other than that..its a pretty nicely equipped car...

enjoy them options

My GXE is a fully loaded version. Not the White Perl paint, but the common biege. I replaced the very worn Sonar II struts with KYB. Other than that, its been great. The electronics have been fine for me. Its got 145K on the clock so far, I bought it @139K so maybe it had work done earlier in its life.

The HUD and digi dash are very cool. The climate control is ok, I kinda like the standard controls better. I'm down with the black leather and sunroof though.

I've added a few things though. Like 92SE tails and grill. Mudflaps and GXE fogs too. Yeah, I'm having fun.

im not sure if therm. could make my heater not blow HOT air.. if it was stuck, wouldn't my temp gauge read HOT? mine is at the nominal temp. Could it be a clogged heater core?

If it's stuck open, then it never lets the engine get to full operating temp. That, coupled with the fact that it's already really cold out, can cause your problem. If it were stuck closed, your car would overheat.
There were several posts a while back when it first started getting cold, where people would have good heat driving around town, but as soon as they got on the highway, no heat. Same situation- thermostat stuck open so that coolant is always circulating. Driving at 70 mph on the highway at 30 degrees forces alot of cold air through the radiator, cooling things off pretty quick.

Hey All, I'm unearthing this ancient thread for a reason. I also have the fully loaded GXE ('89) with Digital Dash, Climate, HUD, Moonroof, Bose, and Sonar Suspension. My question is can I drop the car using Eibach and keep the stock struts (I have about 84k mi on the car now. I'm not sure if the struts are bad yet or not. When set to sport it is a little more stiff but not much and the sonar lights don't come on anymore. The strut boots also look like need replacing)? If not, are there any other lowering springs that I can use with the stock struts that would not ruin them? I have 17" wheels I'm puting on and want the looks and performance of lowered springs.

Basically, I like the adjustability of the Sonar Setup. The only thing that comes close is the Konis, but then you have to take them off to adjust them or pay an arm and a leg to make them externally adjustable and then only be able to adjust them manually instead of with the touch of a button. Plus, if I change to koni's I'm not even sure if I can install them in my stock housings, since all the places that sell them say they are for all 89-94 Maximas except with electronically controlled suspension. I suppose I could take off the electonic controls from the struts and then cut up the housing to install the Konis, but I could never go back if I wanted to. Maybe I should get other JY housings to cut up for the Konis and then keep the origininal Sonar Housings incase I want to go back to stock later. That way I could get rear SE strut housings that would allow me to do the rear drum to disk conversion.

Anyone have any opinions on this? And, I know I've been speculating about this for way too long, but unfortunately I way too long to wait until my budget can support the $600+ price for Konis, what to speak of the cost of mounts, boots, installation, etc. So, in the meantime, I plot and scheme

Thanks for thinkin' wit' me!

-Mark

So what do you all think about the Sonar Suspension thing? Should I start a different thread about that, or is this one OK?

I have the HUD as well on a 1990 GXE. The sonar suspension is long gone, however. The lights on my climate control is gone like the other poster said.

Since I can't create threads for some reason I have a couple questions -

Recently I went in to get my emissions and they couldn't even take the test because there wasn't enough exhaust coming out. I took it for a free exhaust system inspection and the end result was a 2000+ estimate because the manifolds are slightly cracked and the Y-Pipe is rusted out. Unfortunately the car is barely even worth that much so I need to know a good place to get a new y-pipe for the VG and hopefully this will be enough to get the emissions test done so I can drive the car again. Thanks!

i just have the HUD on my '93 GXE. i've had it for about a little over 2 years now thanks to Craigs write-up on it. i also have the digital climate control, bose audio, leather power seats, and sunroof. i always use the HUD at night never in the day. i didn't like the digital cluster for the fact that it always burns out and its a pain in the a$$ to fix.

for ur exhaust problem just get new manifolds from a junkyard and replace ur exhaust studs from the heads with turbo exhaust studs form the dealer. either way when u buy the studs for ur car the dealer r goona give u the turbo studs for the maxima but usin' the 300zx part number for it. for ur y-pipe just go to http://www.warpspeedperformance.com/ and buy the y-pipe from them. they might have the deal where they will include a magnaflow cat as well. i paid $250 for mine. good luck.

I heard that the Sonar Suspension, which was an option on the 2nd gens as well, isn't noticeable. On that note, I definitely recommend against lowering the car with stock struts. You'll burn out the struts and need to remove everything and re-align the car again; better to do everything the first time. KYB GR-2s seem to go well with Eibachs, as I have paired my Eibachs with KYB GR-2s.
