Ongoing problem with Squeaky belt noises
Hello everyone,
I have probably posted something similar in the past, but I can't remember and the problem is still there. This has been going on for over a year now. The problem is the insane squeeking noise from my belts. It only squeeks when it rains, or is very cold, or just extremely moist, but not rain. I have gotten the belts checked at 2 different locations, one being the stealership and they tell me that my belts are fine. Most recently was my families mechanic who also told me my belts were perfect. Now, interestingly enough, the first time around with the dealership they told me they tightened the belts, and the next day is rained and there was no noise at all. I thought this was fixed. After some normal driving and the next storm I began to hear faint squeeking again and it progressively got worse and worse. Now, looking at the belt area as it is now, I notice the pulley in the center kind of below the others is wabboling a little bit, after the dealership tightened the belts it was fine. Would this problem be a bad tensioner? which would, over time, cause the belts to losen up and begin to squeek again? If so, how much would it be to replace this and or would it be easy enough to do on my own. The squeeking has got to stop, its getting so annoying, its louder than my damn intake.

here,
just make sure you don't over tighten. i had the same problem that you are. tried soap and belt dressing, but ended up having to tighten the belts.
edit: sorry, i forgot this pic didn't include how much the belt should move. i'll have to find those numbers real quick.

Great thanks for the image, that will certainly help, however I don't want to have to tighten the belts all the time, they should stay tighter longer than they did I would think. There has to be a part that is not working correctly, causing the belts to loosen up rapidly, my previous car had a similar issue, when I had the belts tightened it was fine for the next year until I replaced all the belts. Im sure all maxima's dont have this same issue all the time under these conditions, so something is malfunctioning.
