New Owner/Transmission Prob

Its great to have a forum with so much useful info. I've had my 2000 Maxima SE for a month now and I look forward to every drive(although its a drastic change having a auto 4 door sedan, yes I said auto, dont crucify me but its nice in L.A. rush hour traffic on the 101) The car was a real find. I am lookin to do some clean modifications to the car while not drastically changing the driveability and deffinately not looking Boy Racer style(I'm getting away from my street racer days...at least until the next red light)
I am experiencing a prblem I failed to pick up on when I bought the car. The shift from 1st to 2nd is a delay and not normal...has anyexperienced this? I put some Lucas Transmission crap in there to no luck fixing this. I have 50k on the car and dont know what other steps to take, any ideas? Other wise the car is GREAT and when the ladies toosh's touche the black leather w/ heated seats...a deffinate panty wetter.
I look forward to swappin war stories with you all, drop a line and say what up.

there is a TSB on this for all 2000 models. it is called transmission slippage. it happens between 1st to 2nd OR 2nd to 3rd gear shifts. feels like a big delay before shifting.

you can find a copy of the Nissan TSB here:
http://maxima.theowensfamily.com/tsb...=2000&tsb=none

click the "transmission slippage" one to download it.

you can take that to your dealer and have it repaired per the TSB directions.

i just had it done to my 2k max a few months ago. it is covered under Nissans standard 5 year/60k mile powertrain warranty. so much better now!

be ready though...several guys with this problem have had to fight with their local dealerships to get them to do it for free. read the TSB, print it and take it with you, educate yourself about it, check your warranty info or call Nissan if you have to - to learn about the powertrain warranty, and go in and act like you know what you are talking about. be nice, but firm - don't take "no" for an answer.

i think someone said it would cost around $500 or so to fix otherwise...can't remember for sure.

i had to make a little stick to get my local dealership to fix mine under warranty (with only 45k) as well. they gave in when i just told them i would call Nissan and see what they said about it.

good luck!

Even if Im the second owner I can still be covered by the warranty? I took a look at the TSB page and I'll keep you posted on whether this becomes a battle or not. Anyone have any info where I can find out more on the pwertrain warranty?

yep...as said before...nissan's warrantys are fully transferable to any # owner.

if you want ammo...just call Nissan and have them tell you directly. or try to have them fax a copy of it to you or something. that way the dealership will have no chance to play dumb.

good luck!

Did they replace just the solenoids? Or did they do the TCM and the solenoids?
I'm having this done today (just the solenoids though). Did the slippage or delay completely go away?

My dad actually picked it up from the dealer for me and i will be test driving after I get out of work tonight. They performed the TSM report I brought in, which is just the solenoids since the problem was from 1st to 2nd. I'll let ya know in about 2 hours what the verdict is...cross your fingers.
