Upper intake mod complete *PICS* (56k die)
Upper intake mod complete *PICS* (56k die)
Modiddy inspired me to do this.
I tooke a piece of 6" long 3" ID pipe, and basically replaced my intake resonator with it. I welded 2 inlets for those vaccum lines to go in place then painted it black.
I can definitly assure you there is a major growl difference at higher RPMs. It sounds mean as hell.
Here is what it looks like:

**JUST FOR DIXIT**
It took me about 15 minutes to do...not bad..and I only spent $3 getting the coupler from Lowe's.

I did this same mod on my car, except I had to make an adapter plate to connect the MAF sensor to the cone filter. I also left the bottom part of the stock intake under the cone filter.
It does give a great sound....now only if my exhaust sounded that good....

you may want to paint it with some kind of rust resistant paint outside and in. my bro did this same mod to his 4runner and has major rust issues a few months later.
good job though! Really good welds, I can see them QUITE well.
ever heard of photoshop's resize function?

Oh yeah, Bijan, why didnt you extend the pipe all the way to the throttle body? That accordian section sucks (when i replaced mine I got rid of a annoying hum at idle, and the car seemed to pull better).
Also just go to Napa and buy 6-8" of 3" truck radiator hose and 4 3" hose clamps. Works soooo much better than those rink-a-dink Home Depot clamps and shouldnt cost more than $10 too.

why not just remove that plastic and go metal all the way across
, no better yet why not get one bend and two more 3 ft sections and make your own custom CAI
amazing aint it! your around pipes all the time so dont BS me saying that you aint got no cash.
People not to back up this scrub but he does have access to a welder at his job.

I dunno why yall are trippin and sayin I cant weld.
I had the pipe off, drilled 2 holes...1 for the bigger line and 1 for the smaller one. I took the EXISTING smaller plug, and stuck it from the inside out, tacked it...then welded it in place. Same thing with the big one except I didnt go from the inside out.

Doubt me all you want Dixit...
Jay, I dont need a CAI...I'm cool with this.

Depends.
It's part of the PCV(Positive Crankcase Ventilation) system, which scavenges oily blow-by gases in your crankcase to either be drawn into the intake tract through that breather hole or through the PCV valve.
It draws air in most of the time, however during shutdown hot oily trapped air escapes into your intake tract, through your airbox, and outside. Mostly it just makes a residue on the inside of your intake tube. Instead, now with that breather, it just releases the oily vapor into the hood compartment/environment instead of gunking up your intake/TB/manifold and being combusted.
There are negatives too, but got to go.

Mine is just like this and you can start to hear the growl (from inside the car) at about 2500 rpm...from there once you go WOT it sounds really nice (even better around 3500+), not annoying at all.
I welded mine with a Hobart 135 MIG---not the strongest of welders, but it beats our Lincoln Arc welder...
Trying to get my post count up....
thought I would go ahead and post a link to the picture of my intake
