Hi, Everyone
Need some help..Does anyone know how I can go about changing the light bulbs behind the speedometer and RPM Meter. I want to change the color. I know that its possible but I just don't want to break anything. I got a 96Max and I hope that once I get to the light bulbs I can figure out what kind I need to buy.
Thanx

This is a rough set of instructions...
Drop the steering wheel all the way down.remove the two screws at the top of the plastic trim piece in front of the guage pod. with a flat head screwdriver or putty knife(better.Lesschance of scratching anything.) pop off the trim piece. Once off, you will see the pod. remove the one screw at the top, and two at the bottom. Work the pod out, and unplug the wiring harnesses.(there are 3) The bulbs are in the back.
Hope this helps....

the 194 wedge bulb's base...
is too big to fit the little bulb holder. i tried myself and they will not fit unless you modify them. anyways, i got some amber bulbs from lighting technologies that are direct fit to have a amber gauge illumination. they're definitely not as amber as the BMW's but they are brighter than stock...look kind of like the mercedes amber lights.
good luck, if you can get the 194's to fit let me know!

i changed those with superwhite 194 wedge bulbs. no problems. Dunno why they wouldn fit. Stock ones are 194's. Mine is a 95 Maxima. Unless other years are different. i doubt it tho
I must have bad luck to be the only with
odd sized dash light. well i have a 99 Maxima SE. when i took out the the dash, i tried to put some polarg 194's in there. the base of the bulb just would not fit the tiny bulb holders(believe me i tried). the bulb looked like a miniature 194 and my performance shop didn't carry any in the hyperwhite flavor. so i went to autozone and they happened to have a amber bulb with smaller base, but the top part was just like the 194 bulb.
and yes it is not extremely orange, but they are noticeable and brighter.
i think someone here changed their dash lights green.

Try this out for your dash bulb replacement. There's lots a pics and looks real straightforward. [I've not done it yet]

I went through this link to change the guage lights. http://www.geocities.com/amixam69/nissan/dash/ I just followed the pics. The hardest step is taking the black steering column cover off. It has four clips that hold that in place..2 in the middle one on the left, and one on the right. Once I took that off the rest was hell-a-easy.
