I was looking at getting some HID;s but i was wondering what kind of HID's do u 4th gen people use, Bi-xenon or just regular and not have high beams?

(i know of HID websites for brands and colors, im just wondering if you use Bi-xenon or just live without highbeams?)

im not a forth gen, but my cuz is he uses an acura HID kit with no highs. the bi xenon kits arent good because the way they work is no good, most have a flap that moves when the high are activated. it gets stuck alot and so forth. there was a post about this before i just cant search so i cant find it. but i think your better off with a lowbeam hid kit and just shove some bright *** fog lights behind your gill so no one sees them and run a switch to your highs and use them as high not that ull ever need them since HIDs are more than bright enough. yes i know highs shine at a diff point but with the brightness of HIDs you dont need the highs IMO. sorry for the text book.

 

I have McCulloch 8000k's, and I love them. $315 shipped on good ol' Ebay.

 

I got lightning X 8500K, and they rock.
They are low beam, and trust me, you won't ever need highs, or even fogs ever again.
I need to lower mine so I stop getting high beamed on the street.

 

i dunno where the hell you heard that from , to my knowledge there are 3 max's with them (myself, soulrupture, and geo1317), and so far no reports of that. as long as everything is wired right, then that should never be a problem. mine have never given me a problem. also, if you buy quality parts then that will never be a problem

Honestly the Bixenon route is alot more exspensive, but having the high's really does make a difference. i like that when i go on drives at night with friends (in their cars) i go in front and can truely "light the way."

look to spend about 900 bones or so through HIDtech.com or a little less if you DIY

the thing about the bixenon setup is that unlike the low beam only kits, you have to buy the projectors too which add about $300 to the HID cost, pluss you factor in labor to "retrofit" your stock headlights.... if you do it yourself you can subtract about 200 or so...but don't quote me on that, i didn't bother to look at HIDtech.com for their labor charge.

 

well that really makes that out of the question since 1)i'm only 16 and 2) i have really no car experience or extra money

What you can do is get a set on Ebay but make sure there off a BMW. Yes you will lose the high beam but you wont need it once you install them. If you got some extra cash, get another set and install them to your fog lights just in case they blow on you. What you should do when you install them, gutt out the standard bulb and epoxy the HID to that bulb so you wont have to cut out the plug. That way if they should ever happen to blow, you can plug a standard bulb and your all good.
As for the color, the BMW Hellas are the best cause their color will never change like the HID's on the 03 Max.

 

I've got a pair of 6000k McCulloguh HID kit. Personally these were hard to get use to. I had to make a couple of adjustments before i could really enjoy them. The headlight housing was aimed too high for this kit. I had to aim them lower inorder not to blind other drivers. After aiming low, I have no problem with people flashing me. I love the lights other than they are really bright. I would recommend these to others.

Dude- Don't do it. I had HID's in my car for about a year. Yes I was all exited at how rediculously bright the output was, anything would have made me happier at the time compared to the stockers. Nevertheless, after the honeymoon period, you will notice that the beam pattern is extremely unstable and alot of the light output is useless. You want your light concentrated onto the ground. The problem with our 9004 housing is that because you must lower the hell outa the headlight to not blind oncoming traffic, you wind up losing light output down the road on the pavement. Also, D2R arc and 9004 filiments are comepletely polar opposites, think of the d2R arc a verticle light and the 9004 filiment horizontal. It could be the exact opposite, but you get the idea. So when you put the d2R bulb in the 9004 housing the light gets scattered. Think of a flashlight adjustment. So, sure, my HID's would light up the traffic and highway signs like nobodies business, but beccause it was not where I REALLY needed it, they actually made driving at night MORE hazardous if you can understand what I am saying. There are times when you need highbeems for that sudden dark turn, aimed at an exact abgle and you just don't ahve it anymore due to the HID's and for that moment, you ask yourself "why did I do this to my car?"Think of it like this- HID is a wonderful lighting system- no doubt...IF it is implimented correctly, but in our case with the MAX, it does play well with our reflectors. When you put HID's in our stock housing it kinda translates like from going to sound quality Stereo setup to an All out SPL setup. Hope this helps!

 

The housing itself isn't 9004. It's a reflector housing which isn't good hor HIDs.

 

True, But what i meant to explain was the way the filiment sits in the bulb vertical/vs. horizontal, creating that cats eye effect in the reflector.

i have a 9004 kit, and i love it. i do nto care what other sya they might not of been made for the light but it is just so much better. i would never swicth back. i have a cheaper kit, but it serves my pourposes very well. i got a hanabi 6000k kit, and it has never failed me.

 

man.............. i just keep spending money I don't have... now I have to go spend more... on HID's... oh well

im thinking about getting mccullough 6000K... my friend's 8000k are too blue, and really didnt light up the road as well as I think they should have

 

McCulloch really suck, you guys should read up on hidforum.com about them.. I think everyone who's had them has had problems within 8 months, myself included.
