HELP :help:

ok so i know i have posted this stuff kinda sepratley lately but i need to get this all together so my dad can figure out what he wants to do about my little problems.
Okay so its a bit long but here we go:
first off some FYI 94 GXE Autotragic, 150k
1) When i start the car i get a a ticking sound for about 3 to five sconds on start up, a cold start that is, and only a cold start. (for about 6 months now, it did it longer until i used some injector cleaner in, it used to be like 10 seconds)
2) When i get in the car and go to put it in reverse, then i hear a clank sound when i go into reverse from park. And on hills and stuff its exspecially loud and harder to put into reverse (about 3months now)
3) unless you drive it really slow, like grama style, then it will not change from 2nd to 3rd unless you comletey take you foot off the gas for a fews seconds.(about 3 months atleast)
HELP!!
I really need to know stuff like if my tranny is begining to go, and how much it costs to rebuild, fix or do a 5spd swap. And wheter or not to send more money in it, cause i just did angel eyes and a bunch of other things and dont wanna spend more if its not gonna last me for years moreAs much info as possible helps. Thanks soo much for the info.
my guesses...
1. sounds like noisy lifters or exhaust studs...both common VG probs
2. could be a loose heat shield or yes, your tranny could be dying
3. yeah...sounds like the inevitable is approaching
get about $1500 or so ready for a rebuild

The clicking is probably nothing but valves. I had exhaust stud problems but you could only hear the clicking when the motor was under load, not when I would just start up the car. That only cost a couple hundred bucks.
As for your shifting problems, my tranny just went out this winter but not the ways your's sounds. I first lost second gear and then eventually overdrive. So I can't help you there. I bought a tranny from a junkyard for 500 and had it put in for 250. If you can't find a tranny in your city, look on car-part.com and you will be able to find one at least somewhat close to you. Rebuilds go from about 1500-2500. Change your tranny fluid right away, maybe it will help, then go have a couple shops drive it and see what they think.
Sorry I can't help more.

thanks for the help, the more people who say this the better my dad will understand that its the tranny in all 3rd gens and im kinda using this as leverage for getting my dream car
Bye bye tranny....ticking sound is probably studs, ($100 parts from Nissan) or could be valves, I agree. Clunking when changing gears could also be related to motor mounts- check them anyway with 150K on it.
I suggest NOT rebuilding unless your Dad, Uncle or best friend owns the shop. Most places cannot rebuild these things right, even tho they say they've "built hundreds of 'em" ..... My suggestion is to fing a low mileage used one and pay half the rebuild charge to have someone install it. Even tho they are not the greatest trannies, real Nissan ones are still better than rebuilds, IMO. (No disrespect to anyone who has good experiences with it, BTW)

I agree, your tranny is probably close to going out. At first mine would rev unusually high between gears or just take a long time to shift. It eventually wouldn't shift out of first. I ended up paying close to $2000 for a rebuild and a solenoid pack (don't remember exactly what it was called).
