hi my first question is...when i have the door about 1/4 open (or about a foot away from being totally shut), the rubber near the windshield is in contact with the frame of the door, and causes a squeaking sound...well, more like a rubbery contact sound. i can't really describe it, but does anyone have a solution for that?

my next question has to do with the engine bays. i've seen 5th gen models with a 4th gen style engine bay. was it like this for the 2000 models or something? didn't the engine bay get a makeover for the 5th gens?

thanks

Here's something you can try. Open the door fully. Saturate one corner of a clean cloth with silicone spray lubricant. Wipe the lube on the rubber weatherstrip.

Some type of WD-40 type lubricant is what I use and this is common on the 4th and 5th Gen. As far as the engine bay goes the 4th and 5th gen setup is very similiar appearence wise as far as valve covers etc. Only the 01AE has that special silver engine cover, I hope this helps you out.

Daniel has a good idea. My back doors used to squeak horribly (LOUD!) from something rubbing in the joints. I used silicone spray (it doesn't run or drip like WD-40 can) and haven't had any problems since. Just make sure you don't breath in any of the stuff.

DO NOT WD-40 any rubber! The wd40 will break down the rubber. Instead, use the Silicone spray. If your windows ever stick to the tint, you can lube them up as well. This is what I did and it worked wonders.
