3M Perfect III Rubbing Compound. WOW!
3M Perfect III Rubbing Compound. WOW!
I washed my car the other day and found a whole bunch of small scraches in the clearcoat. Must have been from some brush at the sides of the driveway at my cottage. A little 4x6 area on my door, and some on the corners of the front and rear bumpers too. I was in a panic. So I went to get some sort of rubbing compound. The local retailers are in a "winter" mode and don't have much of the car care stuff out.
A friend of mine at a local commercial automotive supplier hooked me up with a small sample bottle of this 3M Perfect-It III rubbing compound. Said it was a very mild abrasive and I shouldn't have any troubles with it.
Boy was he right! This was my first attempt at removing scratches myself. I put some on a 6" buffer and went to work on about 10 spots on my car. I can't believe how great they came out (yes I know, pics would be better).
I'd highly reccomend this to anyone. It makes the Scratch X product I've been using look like crap.

meh...Scratch X works ok on some stuff....never as good as it claims to...tho.
The only downside to the 3M product is that it comes in a HUGE bottle since its for commercial use. I'd never finish it. I gotta go find a couple people to split it with.

CanadianMoFo: I will go in on it with you. This stuff sounds like the bomb! Let's see if we can find others to go in with us. One of us can buy it and then bottle it in smaller bottles and sent it to the others. What do you think? I have the perfect bottles for this. They are plastic squeeze bottles with a pop on cap on the nozzle. I usually keep my waxes in them.
Let me know your thoughts.
Anyone know where to buy this and how much it is?

Can't hurt. I just laid down a couple coats of wax on the area's I did. I'm not going to do anything major for a couple weeks. Once I clean out my garage (full of summer junk) I'm putting the car in there and doing a thorough job on all the paint.
