Price range for manifold repair

I believe my first mechanic said that the exhaust manifold was cracked however this week i'll be taking my max to the nissan dealership to get an estimate and to really see what work needs to be done and what all needs to be replaced. I just wanted to get some feedback as far as how much this all would cost at the worst possible scenario. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

Well if you goto the dealership, its a worst case scenario, they usually nail you something like 70$ just to look at the car. I would advise bringing it to a place that does nissans, and have them look at it.

Or, i was just thinking, you can be cheap and bring it to carmax, and they will tell you EVERYTHING thats wrong with your car.

I would imagine you would get hit pretty hard with the cost of a new one, as if the labor cost won't be high enough. The labor is going to be steep, as most dealers charge $70+ per hour.

Just a reminder, if indeed your manifold needs to be replaced that I will be parting my old engine and I can get it off and shipped to you pretty quickly.

**send a PM if you are interested...shameless Internetautomart-like plug hahaha**

If it's just the studs that are broken (most likely the case), be sure that you get them replaced with the turbo studs.

well, Kevolution has first crack at it if he wants it, but if he doesn't, I will sell parts to whoever PMs me, first come first serve. I have my old engine in the garage and I will be parting it out. My old engine did have a few broken studs, but it had no audible exhaust leaks, so I am assuming the manifolds aren't warped. Even so, they aren't broken or cracked, so they could be remilled.

Kevoluton -- the common problem is for the manifold studs to break on our cars, causing exhaust leaks at the manifold. The turbo studs are the same size, but I believe the metal is upgraded (they are more durable).

I hope this helps.

How many times do we have to tell you idjits that ALL of Nissan's computers are already updated with the part # for the proper studs?!

They fixed that issue 5 years ago, so all you have to do is go in and order studs for a Maxima and you'll get the proper ones.

FYI, there are also at least half a dozen writeups on this in various places, so it would behoove you to do a bit of reading.

It's the old saying as far as having the dealer do it..."If you have to ask, you can't afford it".

IMO, the only thing the dealer is good for is to get a good diagnostic run if you are having trouble with something you just flat can't figure out. But, for the most part you can get ECU codes yourself (if it's something that throws a code..)

Even then, I'd just use the dealer for info, NOT for fixing anything.

Sorta odd that you mention this. I was ordering studs from Dave Burnette. He had the p/n for the VE and the p/n for the turbo Z31 studs. I ordered both. When I started in with replacing the studs on Chris's VE, I compared the JDM studs with the VE studs I got. They looked the same and had the same #9 mark on them. Either the JDM studs are the stronger ones or maybe Nissan doesn't have the VE stud # upgraded yet. I ended up pulling the VE studs and using the Z31 turbo studs as that is what I've used in the past. These are approximately 3-4 mm shorter than the VE stud.

weird. every time I've ordered them (from 3 diferent dealers), I always get the ones with the same P# as the turbo studs.

That's what I thought too. But Dave B was sorta confused. So I just defaulted to the Z31 turbo p/n that I got from the 4dsc article. I think anyone should ask for the studs by p/n and not assume. (just to be really safe)
