Do you like the CAI from Place? Can it be setup in a "dry" setup...i.e. where does the filter sit in the setup? How easy/hard was it to install?

And I know I shouldn't ask, but I will anyway...how much did you pay for it?

Yup, I like it a lot. I got it from Cattman for $215 (doesn't include shipping).

Can you elaborate more on the "dry" setup? The filter sits outside the engine bay (take a look at my CAI pictures at my homepage).

I say it was pretty easy to install. Make sure you have a 3.5" hole saw before you start.

Nope... didn't take any. PR has a template that shows you where to cut.

I notice that PR's Civic CAI has an optional setup for the filter to be placed inside the engine bay. Can this be done with the Maxima intake? The PR web site doesn't have details on the Maxima intake, that's why I ask.

Since I'm in the Seattle area...I'm driving in a lot of rainy weather...concerned about how "wet" the PR setup is...don't want to f'up my car.

Once you do that its not a CAI any more... at that point you should prolly go with the OSCAI or one of the cone intakes.

Didn't Avalon Racing have to modify their 2001 AE CAI modification, to have the filter inside the engine bay? I thought they had a PR intake, but had to change it in some form or fashion. I don't believe it was a Stillen or POP intake....

If you move the filter to inside the engine bay, it will not be a CAI anymore. It will be a HAI (hot air intake). You can move the filter if you choose, but that'll defeat the purpose of getting the CAI.

Don't worry about the rain... worry about floods.

Hmmm, that's a damn good point...just ignore me when I don't think. Any comments on mdeal's thing about diffs with the AE. I can't see how the CAI installation would have to be different.

About mdeal's post... I doubt there should be any modifications if you want use the filter within the engine bay.

You should only need to remove the filter, detach the long piping, and attach the filter to where you detached the piping. I don't have an AE so I'm not 100% sure, but it shouldn't be different than the 2k's.

Here you go: http://www.avalonracing.net/2001maxima.htm

Notice it is a PR CAI body (I think I read that somewhere), but shortened to act like a Stillen or POP intake.

Perhaps they didn't want to cut the fender on a new car conversion before it was actually sold?

Why a CAI??

I agree that it looks like a PRCAI without the extension pipe that runs to the fender wall. However, as we've discussed earlier in this thread, how can they call it a "Cold Air Intake" if the filter is inside the engine bay??? And that filter looks considerably larger than a standard filter (like the one that comes with the two POP chargers mentioned)

I wonder if the Avalon guys sell these pieces one-by-one. The base performance kit for the Avalon Edition AE seems like a great way to go for me (since I'm working from scratch currently). It looks like I could just work with them on the whole upgrade.

I've got an AE and I've had the Place Racing CAI for about a month and a half now.....It didn't fit at first I had to make the hole a little bigger than the template and move the battery over some...there just wasn't enough room
