help, no power after 5k rpm, strange exhaust sound

as i floor it in any gear it seems that after about 5k rpms there is a loss of power. before it would just push harder n harder, now it seems to push even less at high rpms.

what could this be??

on a possibly unrelated problem i noticed my exhaust got much louder lately. i tought i was the cold weather but i doubt it. it also makes a strange noise when you rev it up n then let go, it kinda farts or something??

could it be my cat is going bad or what??

you have an exhaust leak, or rather it sound like a separation. check the flange in front of the axle, between the b-pipe and muffler, and check around the cat/y-pipe, perhaps your flex section. as for the loss above 5k, i have no answers, perhaps the vias system, but i'm not keen on the symptoms exactly.

how many miles do you have on your car? If it's a lot you may want to clean your TB or check spark plugs for fouling. It could be a # of things.

the mailage is 78k, i dont think s dirty tb would couse such a power loss. the plugs were changes about 5 k ago.

from what i understand at about 5000 or 5500 the the second of the dual runners open up, so maybe its that second runner thats not openning??
