Starter causing a rattle at startup?

I remember reading a how to on replaceing the greese in the starter. I have a noise (well one of them) that sounds really nasty at startup. It only happens for a few seconds when starting up, more so the first startup of the day. It seems to be all the time just louder the first time of the day. I though it might be an oil problem or lack of oil at startup because the oil light stays on for a few secs at startup and because the nissan service advisor thought it might be caused by an oil filter- not nissans.

But I dunno, maybe a filter, gonna try it next oil change but I don't feel confident that it's that. I was thinking today that maybe the rattle, which sounds horrible is a issue with the starter and not the oil. What do you guys think starter? If not then what?

Thanks
Robert

Mine did that also, the oil light would blink for a split second during start-up. It also made a slight clacking noise during a cold start for a split second also while the oil pump did its thing. I didn't use a Nissan Filter and bought an off-brand cheapo thing so that might have been my problem. But I'm not sure if thats the sound you are talking about without a sound clip.

I know, could a filter really cause this. I've been getting my oil changed at the same place for 3+ years the noise started a while ago, I used moble 1 synthetic for most of time but have switched to castrol high mileage to try it out. Also I think the filters are a brand mighty max. I see them in a couple places in nj, not just here. I will try the filter, it sounds like clacking/rattle.

Yeah I got a 2k1 does that still apply, and if we are technical about the rattle it's sometimes more than 1 second.

What's the best way to make a sound clip maybe that would help?
