Loud Noises when turning the wheel all the way in each direction...

I some others have experienced this but I was wondering if anyone has fixed it.

When I cut the wheel all the way to the right lets say and I hit some bumps or go up a driveway lets say I hear some loud grinding like the wheels are gonna fall off. Its been happening for a while now and seems to have gotten a lil worse since it first happend. It also happend when I cut all the way to the left also. Its a sound that makes u wanna cringe.

Mine is doing this as well. I had my mechanic check and he told me to get new stabilizer links. I still havent gotten around to buying them but I hope it wont cost that much.

Im hardly on these forums nowadays...is this a common problem for the 5th Gen?

I dunno if yours is the same, but mine only happened on a full left turn lock. It turned out to be the brake shield touching something. I used a screw driver and bent it away from the rotor all around. Seemed to fix the prob.

For my 2000 Max, that grinding sound of the dead rising again was caused by faulty wheel bearings.

My CV joints are fine. I initially thought they were bad then had my trusted mechanic check them out.

Time to call Dave B for a price on the stabilizer links.

Hey Chimmy, how much did the bearings cost ya?

NuJ-

It was the front passenger wheel bearing and hub asssembly...and it made one of the worst sounds I ever heard a car make when I applied the brakes or turned. The repair $386.86 at an indy shop. The owner showed me the faulty parts, and they were truly made out of some of the cheapest metal legally available to car manufacturers.

Incidentally, if you have an '02, that should be covered under the drivetrain section of your warranty. I was given some faulty info by my local Nissan dealer at the time, which is how I ended up at an indy shop rather than letting the dealer fix it under warranty. HOWEVER, when I found out Nissan made a mistake, I persuaded their corporate office in Gardena CA to reimburse me in full!

i just hit 29,000 yesterday. two questions.

1. if this is not fixed can it cause a bigger problem/damage
2. is it fully fixable and if so how much would something like this run -- money and timewise

this only happens to me in reverse with the wheel fully locked in either direction. I never had it when I was on the stock suspension, but it started with the sprint/kyb agx's and now with coilovers also

If t only happens when the wheel is fully turned it may be as simple as the bump stop grinding. If so, it is a simple fix.

When you turn the wheel to lock there is a peg, about a half inch wide, that hits the lower table. There is supposed to be a rubber/plastic cap on the peg. Without the peg there is metal on metal grinding. A simple cap and some grease did the trick for me.

I get this too. I also get a knocking noise if I reverse brake hard. Then the time time I brake while going forward I will get a knock. I dont know if it is a similar problem or not.

Is the recall on the transverse links related to this?

DJ,

If I remember correctly you have Kosei wheels with 47mm offset. I forget the model name. Did you notice this problem when you got these wheels? I had these wheels and I had rubbing issues when I turn my steering wheel lock position. Also do you get the same noise when you backup with steering wheel in locked position? Mine didn't and it was puzzling. But I guess it depends on what kinf of tires you're running (directional vs non-directional).

^^^ Yep I got those wheels but it started when I had my stock wheels on...I might have to bite the bullet and just take the car to service and see what they can do. I'll be takin a vaction at the end of Dec so I'll just wait till then. The noise is so embarrsing also when it happens and everyone turns and looks at the car like WTF? lol

Hmm, then it looks like wheel bearing although it looks to be too soon with your milage. My problem was that the inner part of the tire was rubbing inner section of the wheel well (visually confirmed it). I changed the wheels to 35mm offset and the problem went away.
