Hey guys, i'm planning on getting McCulloch HIDS, any sort of input would be helpful. How's the quality? For the people that already has them, any trouble? Thanks in advance.

i've read that they are cheap plug and play type of stuff

 

People over at hidforums.com don't like them but people have had good luck with them.

 

I have the 6000K McCulloch kit.. I like them, great light output, and theyve given me no trouble at all...

 

i like them, i got mine off ebay for 330 shipped, i had a little trouble simply plugging them in, so i had to splice them in, but otherwise excellent light output and no complaints

 

i have the 4700k hid and love them

Sorry but i have to be the negative one... i have heard a lot of stories and i am under the impression they are garbage. i personally will only use hella... thats what i have, though i havent tryed them yet because i have yet to retrofit them in yet but will in the coming weeks so stay tooned kids. lol.

 

I have read too many stories about failures with these kits. Both bulbs and ballasts have could go out within one year, thats why they reduced the factory warranty on there bulbs or ballasts i forgot to only six months becuase so many failures. If you want a quality kit get philips, best kit money can buy.

if you look around you can find a decent deal on them, hidplanet has a lot of good deals in the for sale section. thats where i got mine.

 

thats what i said when i got my hanabi kit, but 4 months later, hanabi crapped out and i ordered phillips 6000k kit. no problem since

 

if my mcculloch's die at some point, i'll probably move up to philips... didn't have the money for them when I got my 6000k's

 

I had a McCulloch ballast die on me within like 2 months, didn't even use them a lot. The other one has been ok for a little over a year though.

This is a no brainer. Ask yourself this: Would you buy a set of the ebay ricer bulbs for 10 bucks, or would you buy silverstars for ~40 bucks? What is going to last longer?

You're going to have the silverstars for a while.

Do yourself a favor, and buy philips, osram, or hella stuff. You'll appreciate it in the years to come, and they have a really good resale value too. Don't skimp out on some cheap Japanese HID's. Even though some people claim to sell philips/osram/ge/hella rebadged stuff, it's really cheap knock-offs. Get a HID kit from Xenondepot.com.

 

Maybe this is a stupid question and I don't mean to hijak your thread, but do you still have both high and low beams with hids?

It depends on what the kit is. You pay a sh!tload more for Bi-Xenon. Most kits have no high beam.

 

Not entirely correct, xtec was selling a bi-xenon h4 6000k hid kit for 375, if it was single beam then 275.

 

i think this kit had a phony xenon bulb attached to the d2 bulb....not a real bi-xenon setup, but it preserves your high beam operation. there are real bi-xenon kits out there but mucho $$$$.

Is there a need for highbeams with a hid kit? Do any of you miss having both low and high?

 

highbeams was mainly used for a form of communication with another driver. instead of using the highbeams, i just switch my fogs on and off to communicate. As for additional light w/high beams, its not needed w/HID kit.

 

Xtec kits are ****. I'm talking about real Hella/osram/Phillips quality rebased kits. Not cheap knock offs.

 

Lol if your talking about for example a philips 6000k bi-xenon kit then i agree, you might as well go the retro route and have projectors installed inside the headlights. I got philips 6000k in my car and i dont think i really need high beams.

 

do the 02 hid's come with the headlights? or do you just get the headlight housings only for that ridiculously expensive amount of money you have to pay for it.

 

I'm sorry, but my own personal experience is quite the oppisite. I've been using the same cheapo 'ultra white' lights in my maxima since 2002. They bulbs have outlasted 1 car and now on this one. In a timespan of about a year my Dad managed to burn through 5 Silverstars! I've heard the German ones are better, but this was just going into GI Joes and buying a set. They dont last a long time and they aren't really and different than mine in color and such.


Now about McCulloch, I installed the 6000k set on my Dad's 1998 740i back in October and haven't had a problem yet. Nothing but happy with them

 

McCulloch HID's are good for the price.

 

but im tlaking about the actual OEM maxima 2002 headlights. i want to know if i buy a set of OEM headlights, do they come with HID kit, or do i have to have my own to put into the headlights.

 

You are refering to the ballasts/bulbs and yes if purchased from dealer you will get the entire assembly for $1200/set
